Is it normal airplanes keep waking me up at night?

Every 20 or so minutes, I'll hear a loud airplane noise above my house. This wakes me up and is driving me crazy. I use earplugs but it doesn't work for all of them as some are way too low. I don't know what to do/how to sleep through the night.

    By far the simplest solution would be to move away from the airport. You probably should have thought about it before you moved there, but I guess that's why the rent was so cheap, right?

      I live in an expensive place and it's an hour from the airport. Rent is $2000 a month.

        Wow. Usually the places on the airport flight path are super cheap. Oh yeah, just so you know, it ain't an hour for a jet doing 350 knots, with no traffic or stop lights to slow it down.
        Still, I'd move. I guess you could find nicer AND cheaper.

          Yeah, been considering moving..just so much of a hassle as I'd have to move fairly far away to escape the noise pollution.

    I live next to a airport so I also hear planes taking off and landing all the time. It's pretty busy as well. As for me I lived here for nine years and I'm pretty much used to it. As for you perhaps you haven't got used to it yet. You may have lived somewhere very quiet before. That was my case. Your case may be like that as well.

    I have this problem but with boats. They come into my room all hours of the night and ask the same damn question "Heay are you awake?" Then when I wake up, they say "Just checking" and slide out the door.
