Is it normal a girl ask guy out or guy ask girl out?

Ok so my friend (he's a guy) thinks that it's ok for a girl to ask a guy out cause it's basically the same thing as a guy asking girl. But I believe in the old school way, where the guy comes up to girl (doesn't text!!) wanna go out or something along those lines. So what do you think, is it normal for the girls to ask the guys?

    Doesn't matter where I am.. Girls will always approach me. Perhaps its the suits, cologne and roguish good looks...?

    Anyway, their easiness appalls me. I like a challange :)

    Are you in middle school? What makes you so special that he has to do all the work anyway? You're already placing yourself above the men you date by feeling they have to work to gain your attentions. Why not just go with it if you like someone rather than playing silly games?
