Is it normal ... that you sometimes..

Okay, never done this before but i thought im gonna post my thoughts here. Here we go:

I'm an average dude. I go to work everyday, I live in my own house and dont have any needs, problems or whatever. Just to make this clear.

In my free time I visit the local shooting range and train my aiming with my weapons. I shoot competitive, I'm no soldier.

But sometimes when I'm at the range, and there are friends shooting next to me, i get this strange feeling. Like i could just shoot him right there. I could end his lifetime in seconds.

Is it normal?

This is perfectly normal. Have you ever peered over a ledge high up in the air and felt something pushing you, or even the urge to jump? Or you're standing over the ledge with a loved one and realize you can just ... push them? This is merely a case of cognitive dissonance. A simple Wikipedia search will show that cognitive dissonance was first pointed out by Leon Festinger who found that often, people hold two opposing beliefs, or they believe one thing but do something that's against that belief. The feeling that results is called cognitive dissonance, and we often try to alleviate it by justifying our actions or changing our beliefs. When handling a dangerous firearm, your survival instinct kicks in and you fear you may shoot your fellow man\woman, your brain is trying to cope with the uncertainty that you may harm a loved one; this emotional ambiguity. The part of your brain that processes intention will consider the possibility that you want to shoot your best-friend\romantic partner, hence you get this conflicted feeling. Whether or not you act upon these feelings is a different story...

Oh wow, thank you very much. I just didnt know the term.
So I will keep in mind that murderer is illegal and just accept this cognitive dissonance and its appearance in these situations :)

Sure. Just don't act on it or you'll get a whole new exciting life experience.

As long as you don't actually shoot him, it's all normal. I'd say its human nature to think about killing someone... or perhaps that's just me XD

I see some women at the store that are way too hot, I'd rather tell a woman that's she's kind to the eyes , as opposed to ... I want to shoot people
Consider the same thought process for growth.
