Iin....... i trust southerns in the usa more than northerners?

It's strange, but whenever I find out someone is from the North (like Boston, Pennsylvania, New York, or even central places like Michigan, Ohio and Illinois areas) I don't trust them right off the bat. Opposed to someone who is from Georgia, Florida, Alabama, North and South Carolina, etc.

I think Southerners are more hospitable and friendly. So I trust them and South Western people from places like Texas and California much, much, much more than I do Northerners!

Is it normal to feel that Northerner are less trustworthy overall?

  • I'm in northern US but have been to many states in the north and south.
It doesn't seem to be so much north vs south culture differences as it is country vs city.
I don't think either is more or less trust worthy either because anybody can lie, but I will explain what cultural differences I have observed.

Country people generally have better manners. They respect other peoples houses, share more and are hospitable towards guests.

City people often act entitled, disrespectful and complain a lot. However they tend to be more open minded and tolerant towards differences.

I am born and raised from Washington state by country parents so I grew up being taught respect as well as tolerance.
I notice this with my friends too. People from the country are generally much easier to live with. People from the city are often terrible house guests who do not pick up after themselves.

Southerners are more hospitable and friendly except to civil rights workers in station wagons.

Northerners are staunchly independent, expect to do everything themselves, and are not comfortable with syrupy hospitality. Their view is that logic is always more important than cultural expectations.

    I like that.

My father's family were from Pennsylvania and they were very sweet and gracious people.

I say were because they've all since passed away.

I was thinking of the states that border Canada, especially New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine.

If you want to generalize, supposedly people between New York and DC are more stressed and less friendly, and Southerners are all charming and stuff. But its really all individual. I met some awful, racist scum down south and some nice people around here (PA) Hey we have a lot of Amish and they never bother anybody.
I hate Georgia a lot Id never go back there! Not only the hillbillies but the traffic is horrendous and the school system is a big joke.

That's funny, because my mom is originally from Michigan and spent some time in New York during her youth, and she has unreal levels of patience, kindness and gentleness that would put any Southern Belle to shame.

At one point when I was a kid, I actually believed that my mom was an angel on Earth who had chosen to take human form in order to have children.

And I'm sorry if I'm sounding a bit defensive, it's probably because I was born and raised in the North and have lived in the same state my entire life. It's kind of an odd state though, because even though we're in the North, we're best known for 4 things that are usually associated with hillbillies:

    - Huntin'
    - Fishin'
    - Poor fashion choices (even our local news team looks like they got their clothes at a thrift store)
    And...
    - Racism... Unfortunately.

My husband's cousin (from Connecticut) goes to college in the south. She told me that although people there are nicer and more hospitible, they do a greater deal of trash talking behind other peoples backs (girls in particular).
