If you were in power, would you legistate how big a family can be?

Let's say you rose to Total Power on a Global Scale and you had the choice to mandate a future family's size (This family can be married or single). Would you decide to put a limit on how many kids they can have or let people continue reproducing as freely as they've been doing? And would you outlaw Multiple Births (Twins, Triplets, or Higher) completely with Mandatory Abortions as to maintain your said limit? Remember: Your rules are accounted for every family on Earth and it's up to you whether or not they have no kids, small families (1-2 kids) or large families (3+ kids). Would Adoption be mandated to these families as well (since if they're going to have kids, they should be willing to adopt 2 or more kids too right as fairness and give those kids a loving home and parents)?

Yes. There'd be a 1-Child Limit. 10

Yes, there'd be a 0-Child Limit until the world's population reduces. 10
Yes, there'd be a 6-10 Child Limit with 10 kids being the Absolute. 6
No, there'd be no Child Limit but there would be Family Planning. 45

Mandatory abortion or adoption both seem extremely cruel measures.

I'm not one to rave about how government control is bad, but for me regulating reproduction is a lot of steps too far.

    No.

Also 48% of the world's population live in countries with sub-replacement fertility - which means in those cases there aren't enough children being born to replace the previous generation. Which means native populations are or will shrink.

However, because of migration from countries with high fertility rates, the population is still growing, although the rapidity is declining steadily.

Population growth will probably peak in the next 15 - 20 years, and possibly start to decline.

So I wouldn't consider legislation on family sizes necessary.

Far more important that everybody receives education about sex, contraception and disease.
Far more important they are also living within stable, comfortable societies where infant mortality is low and everybody has their human rights valued.

God doesn't do that, what makes the government think they have the right to do so? We actually have more than enough resources, if we just stop being so selfish.

I kind of feel it depends on the family.

Like the Dugars- they need to stop..

People who have kids with crippling disabilities and won't stop cause they feel they have the right to have kids- they need to stop too.

No however I would make a ruling saying you could only have kids above a certain income line. So only upper class-billionaires would be able to have children. This is not to be cruel but people should realize that if you are of a certain income you have no business having kids.

If someone is too poor to even feed themselves why bring in a child they cant care for? That makes the child suffer, and that makes the rest of us wasting money since for your mistakes.

Children should not be limited thanks to parents not having enough to send them to college/university, put them in sports, or help the child pursue their dreams. Parents with more money also send children to better schools and I do not think anyone should be forced to attend these terrible public schools.

When so many of them are disorganized, failing, lowering self esteem, and open for child abuse by other children and perverted teachers. It would also help the child obesity crises. Which I think is mainly caused by parents coming home too tired to cook and do nothing but eat out, and the awful school lunches served by schools that are supposedly healthy but are nothing but frozen and prepackaged trash.

You cant bitch children are too fat when you feed them nothing but shit! They are unhealthy for a reason and its because the public school systems are too worried about kick backs, and not the welfare of the children. Than try to treat the children like its THEIR fault they are so fucking unhealthy.

As well as bullying since schools a lot of times have no control over the children. You also cant argue "Well they are not babysitters" since they are responsible for what these children are doing AT SCHOOL.

Law says you send children to school. If that is the case and a child dies on the schools property its the schools fault! Children should not be forced by law to attend an unsafe work environment.

In a workplace this would be fixed. However this is not really always the case at school. Why are we allowed to torture children? We cant treat workers this awful so why do children have a right to not be beaten, humiliated, and abused? Especially by higher ups?

I have no desire to control others in such a cold and deeply personal way.

I think a better use of my power would be to:

(1)Teach people about sex. Have professional, accessible, sexual education available to EVERYONE.

(2)Have some sort of system in place that qualifies people for parenthood. Because I honestly believe that there are people out there who should never be allowed to take care of another life

I would get some kind of team of scientists together to create a virus that leaves mankind sterile for twenty odd years and see where the chips may fall. Children of men style with out all the bad teeth.

I am very aware of the problems caused by over-population, but I also feel that abortion is extremely cruel when carried out more than two weeks after conception.
If I could, I would place a one child limit until the population has gone down sufficiently, and then raise the limit to two children when a sustainable level has been reached. Second (or third) children would be an option, but the parents would be taxed heavily.

    Abso fucking lutely!
Even though I've little time left on this big blue marble, it would be a great legacy to leave behind; some intelligent start towards controlling the overpopulation we are headed for.
I'd also opt for physical sterilization of ALL convicted sex offenders.
