If you live in a rural or tourist area....

....do you find that visitors belittle you as a local or as a "hick"? Do you find they try to take advantage of you because they think they're better or smarter than you just becasue of where they're from?

What we do in Sweden is point the Americans to the Viking village, and pretend that we don't speak English

I don't mind tourists. It's nice to meet someone new.
And from an economic standpoint - it's good for the country.
However, I don't like the younger russian and british tourists. Sometimes the younger german tourists too.
A lot of those 20-something year old russian tourists get very drunk and fight. Or vandalize the place. And drunken british 20-something year olds, belittle everyone and are also prone to violence. Like they are Gods and the rest of the world is a worthless ameba!

I'm 21 and I have never gotten drunk like a swine and then started a fight, while on vacation. And I never will!

Now that's just the newer generation. Cause I met an old couple from the UK. They were the nicest people I've ever met. Open to new cultures. They told me about visiting other places. It was a very nice talk.
And russians are generally nice too.

And finally we have the japanese. Wonderful people and funny for taking pictures of everything. I remember parking my car on the side of the road, next to some japanese tourists. It's like I was a some blonde chick megastar, sitting naked in a flaming Bugatti Veyron on a plinth! They took pictures of every angle. It's like they don't have any Mercedes cars in Japan XD
Don't get me started on the bus stop they saw! Photo gallery of a bus stop anyone?

Honestly the locals in my town are pretty big dicks to the tourists. My city is pretty "touristy" unfortunately.

I feed them coffee and pot, mock their umbrella, put them on a bike, and tell them to meet me at Powells before dinner for some light reading. Then we'll head to the farm to meet "colin" the chicken before he is served to us on a platter of field greens and hazelnuts. After dinner it will be time for a tasty microbrew.
