If you just turn 30, should you instantly start dressing 30 something?

Basically, what I'm asking is, should you get rid of the clothes you wore at 25-29 and immediately upon turning 30, start dressing "older" so that people know you're in your 30s?

  • This has never even crossed my mind. I just turned 30 a couple months ago and have always worn whatever I wanted.

Im 32 and still dress however I want. I think its just stupid to change how you dress just because youre a year older.

I'm 44 and if they make it in my size I'll wear it. I don't try to dress like a tart, but if it's goofy or ironic hell to tha mutha fuckin' yeah!

Being thirty doesn't mean that you can't be fashionable. Being in your 20's doesn't mean that you are. Wear what you want, as long as you look good in it.

Yes. Throw out your entire wardrobe. Be sure to get some mom jeans. And be sure to buy a baggy pink flowered blouse. Since you are now old, you should dress old.

Oh! And you will also need one of those chains you connect to your glasses so you dont lose them. If you dont wear glasses yet, you will soon.

That's a man accessory, silly. But I will be sure to get one for my husband.

          Hehe, opps. :)

I thought they were either/or though? In that case, what is the female equivalent? Or did they just have to ask their man what time it was? :P

Women keep time on those tiny wrist watches with a clock face the size of a dime.

            :P

Ah, I have seen those. They're 'dainty' I suppose... Personally, I think I wouldn't like having to squint at something all the time to tell what time it was.

Your personality won't drastically change when you hit 30, so no. I love my style and I'll be keeping it.

I'm 36 and still dress like I'm in high school, graphic tees, baggy clothes, I'm afraid that Stacy and Clinton from "What Not To Wear" will jump out of the bushes and snag me for the show, but I'm comfortable and I like the clothes so whatev. Yeah, I said,"Whatev."

I'm turning 30 in another year, what exactly would you suggest? Sweater vests and shit? Do you want me to dress like Mr. Rogers? Please, suggest some things to me so my old ass can get a grip.

Ya when you're 30, you have to dress "old style" middle aged-ish. And when you're 50, you have to dress "elderly style and always have a cane" Docha kno!

While the number of years you've lived does hold some indication of youthfulness and oldfulness, the sort of change described is a case of assigning too much importance to age.

There are cases where you can think that a person should dress their age, meaning that they are too old for what they are wearing, but, on the other hand, if you look good in it and you like wearing it, then don't let the numbers drag you down.

Lately, I have had the thought of what if some of the energy going towards frowning upon those who don't act mature enough (like 30-somethings wearing youthful clothes) was directed towards thinking that holding on to your youthfulness is a good thing.
This may be easier if you're also of the opinion that life is generally best at 18-25-ish.

    I didn't know 30-somethings dressed any differently.

    How do 30 somethings dress?

Maybe you could wear one of those tags - "Hello my name is" and write "I'm 30, I'm a big boy now."

Where are there any "rules" on how one should dress according to their age? That's one of the most laughable concepts I have ever heard. Where do you people get these ideas?

There actually is "social guidelines" to dressing according to your age. Mainly for moms and people 50 and older. Theyre ridiculous, but they are there. I dont adhere to them. I prefer to wear whatever I want to.

It still seems "That's one of the most laughable concepts I have ever heard." Even if I was dead, I'd kill anybody that tried to dress me like those old retired guys, living in Florida and driving their canary yellow Cadillacs.
