It's funny, because over here "public school" means a really posh school.
I believe it is right that every child should receive the same (high) standard of education. A parent's ability to pay should never, ever entitle a child to greater standard of education. This is one way in which society reproduces itself and social mobility remains low. So no, I would never send my child to a fee-paying school (unless the education system becomes privatized and all schools are fee-paying, which I sincerely hope does not happen :P).

You can manage giving a child a good education in public school. Also, from what I've seen, those privatized kids don't grow up to be any smarter than their public school counterparts. They usually just become wealthy dumbshits. Quite frankly, all this complaining people do about who's better, smarter, etc. is silly. When are are we going to stop competing over who the best dumbshit is? =/
It depends on the area/school, and I would first collect information on how bad the bullying is there, because bullying can be extremely prevalent and encouraged by the students at one school and lackluster/looked down upon in another(personal experience). I was loser in middleschool, but I was never targeted physically, and most of the people there seemed like good people who actively fought against bullies. My girlfriend who went to a different school however, was beaten almost daily and almost raped there. Huge freaking difference.
Sending my children to private school. You pay for private school so if they don't like looking bad. Fighting looks bad for a school and unlike a public school that gets paid anyways a private school only gets paid if people want to attend.
Private schools also seem to make a huge deal about misbehavior where as most public schools simply sweep it under the rug. Its difficult focusing in class when you have to worry about getting jumped during passing period. Even if you do know the subject. As well as that I can say from personal experience they don't always have the best teachers in Public school. I also went to multiple schools as a child.
When you know you get paid either way there is a lot less pressure to do a good job. If your job is always on the line than you always have to be held up to standards. I would rather have my children go to a school that is being pressured into doing well apposed to a school that is simply going to half ass it. Which from what I seen from schools I went to this seemed to be the case.
As a person who experienced both private and state schools, I can tell you from experience it is up to the individual themselves to utilise what is provided to them.
I went to private schools for roughy half of my time in school, the teaching style used in this particular school was mostly theoretical based learning which wasn't something I benefitted from as oppose to applied learning used at the state school I went to later on.
One went to private schools, one to public. One turned out pretty well, the other, not so much.
Do you think there's a correlation, or are other factors at work?
I ask because I have two sons who both attended the same school...and they have very different outcomes, but that doesn't necessarily reflect your case.
It's actually really weird. The one who went to boarding schools, did so because I had to work, so I wasn't around. The other could go to public school because I changed my life to take care of her. I believe south Florida and the Keys had a lot to do with the the younger one's problems. Both mothers left their daughters with me, and I'll never understand how I could have chosen 2 women who left their kids. What are the odds?
Nope. I would homeschool them. I want to be the one teaching my kids, not some unknown low-paid teacher who could care less about my kid. Granted that isn't always the case, but I wouldn't be willing to take that chance with my kid's future.
I guess reality about public schools in USA or Europe is quite different for what I see in pictures and listen in the news.
I live in Europe and I made high school and University free of charge in public schools. Only had to pay for some books.
My son is going to public school free of charge in the south of Spain and there's nothing wrong with it. The school is quite civilized.
The only real difference a child will show in any of these scenarios will come from teaching the child the very real stresses and responsibilities of adulthood. You will get relatively similar outcomes with education, as education is as simple as teaching facts and facts don't differ from one schooling method to another- except maybe for History and such.
The real difference in a child's outcome will depend on individual environment. If you have a child who constantly gets overlooked and is invisible, they won't try very hard after a while. Or one who gets all they want, they'll expect that elsewhere. A child who has to work for -everything- will push themselves too hard.
This will spread outward to teachers, bosses, and other authorities. As the parent is the first authority, they will set in motion how the child views authority. Education is nothing without proper motivation.
The problem with public schools and the kids who attend them is that they are often an afterthought, at school and at home.
Public schools are just indoctrinating kids into unnatural behaviors... A social experiment.
They discourage competition and emphasize the falsehood of "everyone wins, everyone gets a trophy" and the world owes them a living.
It prepares them to settle for mediocrity and settle for govt handouts.
If I have kids I hope I can afford to have them educated anywhere but govt schools
I went to private school when I live in the Virgin Islands. I moved to Iowa and lived with my grandmother for high school where I attended public schools. At that time, Iowa had the highest ranked schools in the nation...and yes...they were better than the private schools in the islands.
Now...not so much. Common Core standards have destroyed the system. If I could afford it, I'd transfer my kids to private schools.
Would do provate school because it has less kids and that way it cuts down on gangs and fights and bullying. And also the teacher wont have to yell at 50 kids and punish all of them for what only one retarded kid did! (True story bro) therefore it would be safer, and they would get the utt-most best learning quality and high proffessional teachers so you wont see no sloppy teacher walking in there sagging and cursing and being a neusance! And also the school would be cleaner and have better food so that evry one can eat well and not have that GMO crap they feed at public schools. The bathrooms would be cleaner so girls wont have to hold it till home, and the toilets wont infect your ass!!
And best oart is...you wont have any problems with kids begging for your food/chips and no baybay kids (white AND black) and no one will stink because they know how to wash and use deoderant! Not evry one will be rich, but at least they wont be poor and will know how to act correctly.
I never went to any public school, but I had a great time in mine. So my kids would probably also go to a private school.
Private school was my personal hell, I would never torture someone like that
I would prefer to put them in private school because I know that, for me, private school helped me to focus a lot more plus there was more one on one attention and more concern for academics, but private school is too expensive. If I had kids, unless I was making big bucks, they'd probably be in public school like all the other little brats.
Well i would want to send them to public school as it in my experience it develops character where as sending them to private will mean they will be better off in life. But really it depends on what i value more at the time. Sure their future matters but it doesn't mean it should come easy. So i think id send them to public but i would spend abit of money on tuition giving them an edge for a brighter future
Yeah sure. Unless I lived in a particular dangerous area then no. But if I lived in a well to do town or a certain area of a city, then yes. Public schools really aren't that bad. Although I can't say I've ever been to a private school. If I was wealthy though, then I would put my kids in a private school. But I would imagine that private schools still have their social hierarchies and crazed students. I just feel though that there will be repercussions for that behavior though.
