If the very best thing possible happens to you, can it only get worse?

Please read before voting:

You encounter something in your life that is perfect for you in *every* way, exactly how you would want it, if you could have things your way. I'm not talking about perfect weather or a perfect day or anything abstract like that. I'm talking about seeing/experiencing something *tangible* in the *exact same* way that you fantasized it happening, if you could have things your way in life.

Something like that happened to me lately. I can't help but think its an omen. It happened EXACTLY the way I fantisized about it. If you asked me to describe my fantasy, then what happened was exactly the same as what I would describe my fantasy to be. Expectations are irrelevant, my fantasy *ideal*, which I thought was impossible, just happend. It seems that things can only go downhill from here. Anyone on my wavelength over here? It just seems weird that's all

I don't know, I don't think anything happens to me for a reason 12
I can see where you're coming from 34

  • I have heard some hypothesize that achieving goals could destroy one's life. After all, without ambition, wouldn't we all be left an empty shell? Once one achieved their ambitions, nothing is left to look forward to.

Look at it this way though...if a mountain climber reached the crest of Mount Everest, he or she may be inclined to think that, since no higher peak on Earth remains, it's over; there's nothing left to transcend. He or she reached the proverbial "ceiling of the world." However, while he or she must descend the mountain, other ambitions remain...

The universe is infinite. While it didn't require scaling the face of a rock, humans have reached as far as 250,000 miles above the face of the Earth. Who would be the first to traverse distances beyond the moon? Someone will. Will that mountain climber think beyond scaling mountains? It's up to them.

This is an analogy, of course. I could've used the metaphoric "best athlete in the world,' to prove the same point. There's always someone better...even if he hasn't been born yet.

My point is that there's no such thing as a peak or a crest. The universe is infinite.

    ...sorry for the novel.

If something happened to you that was the best thing ever, then obviously nothing else can compare, so there might be a little bit of a come down after. But yeah shit things do usually happen after, always the way things go, I've just had the best two years of my life, this year has bought depression.

Or it can stay good, or another great thing can happen to you after a series of less than great or bad things. Peaks and troughs. It's never a single incline and decline.

Goddamn, something perfect happens and you can't just enjoy the moment, you have to think about how things will probably get worse?! Fuck man. You should lighten up more and stop over thinking this shit. Just enjoy your perfect moment!

Surely you are not completely satisfied with this fantasy come true or you probably wouldn't be asking this. You will get used to it soon enough and find another yearning.

If I won the lottery, I would still want to be a famous artist. If I got my fame I would still want to discover something no one has before. If I discovered something new, I would still want to change the world somehow. All the while, the more I get the more I will want to give so I can see other people's dreams come true.

If you think you have everything you want, you need to want more.

Things could not just go downhill. There's a two way front to life. Your imagined fantasy may have occurred but that does not mean there are no other peaks you can or want to attain. Every day is different and our surroundings influence our expectations. People are never really content so I would be inclined to think that once you have achieved this fantasy that there other phases yet to be explored. I don't believe in omens but if you create an affirmation of things going downhill because you think that you have reached that glass ceiling then you would justify everything less than stellar happening to you as things going bad. You're creating that ceiling yourself instead of breaking through it. The mind is a tricky business.

There is, in reality, no such thing as an 'omen', but your subconscious mind might have tricked you into performing certain behaviours, which you yearned for (to become true), that you performed these actions, and as a consequence, your fantasies became reality.

In other words, a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Not exactly, as this could be misinterpreted as being 'divine' or 'mystic', in nature.
I have come to understand the actual nature of the creatures which many had historically viewed as a deity. They are not. They are simply far more technologically advanced than we are.
They are a mystery no longer.

Self-fulfilling prophecy is a famous idea in sociology. You might associate prophecy with religion but it's not inherently religious. It's synonymous with 'prediction'.

If I had my way I would try to fine a permanent if not temporary cure for all sickness. End poverty. End hunger. End enslavement. End the world. End a few religions. End war. End alot of other bad things... End coolio's life. I would also end my virginity. As well as get my self a mansion and a feralva (kick ass car!).

I do think what goes up does come down, but at the same time that doesn't mean that if your at your highest point right now something horrible will happen, you can stay the same for a while, or something else could happen that' awesome in your life. At some point there will be something bad that happens, because it is life, and it's never easy. But I always try to live in the hear and now, don't dwell on what could happen, enjoy what is happen right here right now.

The world would be a better place if my fantasy cam true, so it would only get better from there.

All my wishes are for things that would last, and thus my live would get better, and stay there or keep improving. It would never go downhill.

I suppose it depends on what your personal fantasy is.

You should watch Love in Thoughts, or Was nützt die Liebe in Gedanken in German (it's a German movie. You can get it subtitled and downloaded.) It's about these people who believe one can only be truly happy once in their life, and after that things go downhill and there is basically no point of living anymore.

But I think that you can be happy more than once. Right now I am in the dumps, but I've been here before, and have experienced very happy moments that got me out of the dumps, moments which couldn't have been better.

it will feel worse after the high of the perfect moment has ceased off. It's like waves though. It won't stay terrible forever afterwards. Just enjoy the moment, don't think about it ending and keep doing what you did to get to it, that way, you'll have more positive moments coming for you

Another point of view i'm having is (bare with me):

If your idea of the perfect life came true, like you explained, then that would mean nothing better in your life, according to your expectations, could occur. (because your definition of the perfect life is already set in your mind).

I could imagine something better happening but that's only because i have a different idea of "the perfect life" than you do- to you, that thing i consider to be better wouldn't be considered better at all.

So this would mean you've reached the highlight of your life- to you, nothing else could ever pass that highlight. So, if you think about it, what you consider to be the best of the best has happened to you- you don't consider anything else better, all that's left is for it to either stay the same OR fall between your fingers (to go downhill, since there is no more "uphill")

No clue if this is making any sense lol

Shouldn't we not close our minds up to the possibilities in life? If you have an idea of the perfect life, what happens when you reach it? Sooner or later you'll probably lose it all and then everything else won't be good enough. Your life goal would have been reached. What's the point of living when your ultimate goal has been reached? What about when you lose grip of that goal (when it goes downhill)? Isn't this like setting yourself up for a trap?

If your fantasy became reality then i wouldn't go doubting it, if i were you. Before you know it, your thoughts will get the best of you. Your worries will become reality- not because something surreal happened to you and anything too good to be true never lasts but because you're overthinking it instead of enjoying every second of it.
