If america isn't a democracy, then what is it?

I know the US isn't a democracy because our history indicates that we were never democratic and how a place like Japan is more democratic than here. Atleast, this is what I heard. So if the USA isn't a Democracy, what is it? Please share your thoughts and beliefs concerning this and thank you for clearing this up for me ^^.

It is under plutocracy. Democracy doesn't work in the United States.

This is how it goes. You can have two countries with the same system but completely different ethics. Japan has a work ethic and believes in family, honor, respect and being successful. America for the most simply does not give a shit. America makes a huge deal about being rich and famous at any cost. Now there is a right way to do things and a wrong way to do things. The wrong way will bring you shame, the right way will bring you honor. Since the US has 0 shame and shame is not in their ethics people basically just go out of their way fucking each other over to get ahead. This can be seen in the politics, in businesses, in schools, and even in children. Japan has a different set of ethics. The issue with America is they don't have any of these values and so are not going to be successful overall.
