If a person moved, would they resend the letter to his/her location?

Let's say you sent a letter to a loved one's PO box but they potentially moved without you knowing. Would the mail people trash it or relocate it to the person's new PO Box or address?

If they supplied the post office with a forwarding address, they will automatically forward the mail to the new address. If they don't supply a forwarding address, sometimes new tenants/homeowners will save their mail (if they're nice)...otherwise it will get returned to sender. Mail is only trashed if it can't get delivered and there's no sender address, even then, it's sometimes saved as lost mail.

        Thanks moe.

I think I will. I'll be busy (planning vacation!), but I shall return on the Eve before Halloween. Expect mayhem.

In the US you submit a change of address form at the post office. The PO then stamps the letter with your new address and forwards it to you. I think there's a 6 month limit to this service. After the appropriate time if a letter has the wrong address then it gets stamped "return to sender" "forwarding order expired". At this point, if your letter has a return address on it then the letter comes back to you.

it really depends on whether or not the moved had registered with their local post office for mail to be forwarded to new address.
