If a friendship might end what do you do?

A friend who you've known for years sends you an email saying that they were upset with some way you'd treated them, and that they don't want to be friends anymore. Some of what they said was true, but you're annoyed and hurt by the email. You also think they're serious about not wanting to be friends. What do you do?

Don't bother to reply and forget they exist 2
Don't reply but end up sad 2
Make some kind of acknowledgement of their email 7

    If you want to still be friends with this person, respond to it and if you feel that person is accurate in what they said you did to them, apologize and not only tell them that you won't do what they disliked (if its reasonable), but truly show them. Actions speak louder than words so if you do want to be friends, show them those actions. Feel free to defend yourself if they were mistaken of course.

    Ignoring is something you do to someone you really don't wish to speak to and your friend cared at least a tiny bit left to be honest and not simply forget you exist just yet.

    I would just talk to them to see what premises they are setting this on, tell them that's a stupid premise, and move on. If they're going to end our friendship over stupid shit then they aren't worth my attention.

    If they're deadset on ending it, there's not much I can do. I would explain my side and also explain how I'm completely hurt by the email.

    I would also leave it open that I will always consider them a friend if it's true.
