Idiots who don't consider alcohol a drug, then judge other drug users.

Why is it that the most judgmental and ignorant people tend to be the ones chastising everyone else for not being as 'perfect' as they are? Why do many people feel it is socially acceptable to get a certain type of HIGH (from alcohol) but another HIGH (from cannabis) is totally amoral and wicked?

I think the most judgemental are the people that have quit some thing and tell you that you should to.

It is because of the negative stigma attached to less harmful but still illegal drugs. It all boils down to ignorance and misinformation. The stigma to marijuana is beginning to fade slowly though. The more states that legalize and dicriminalize it the more it will slowly change the mainstream attitude towards it.

Some people are just retarded and think if it is illegal it must be bad and anyone who uses illegal drugs are also bad. People always forget that alcohol was once completely illegal in the United States. And because alcohol was made illegal during that time organized crime skyrocketed. Prohibition did nothing but give money and power to criminals who were willing to bootleg it. Maybe someday we will all wake the fuck up and realize it is wrong to tell people what they can or cannot out in their own bodies.

Yep. And people are still bootlegging these days in dry counties. I live in an area that's mostly dry and bootlegging is big business.

Why would people bootleg alcohol if it's not illegal?

Because the nearest place you can buy it is a 30-40-or 120 minute drive, and you got it right here for an extra $5 or $10. And because a disproportionate amount of people are on disability/SSI and buy alcohol on credit because they know that check is coming on the 3rd.

In northern Ireland, where I live, there are people who shoot drug dealers in the knees and sometimes even kill them even though most of them drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes every day. There are republican bars where they all go and get drunk and then they shoot teenagers for selling weed.

People like my sister insist that marijuana is the "gateway" drug. The two drugs almost everyone tries in high school are alcohol and nicotine.

My biological father was a drunken, abusive alcoholic. I've never been in the presence of someone who was high from smoking weed and starting smacking his wife and kids around and then put them in a car and terrified them with his driving. But I've been in that seat as a scared little kid.

I smoke weed, but I rarely drink.

My brother was stabbed 5 times by a guy who lost the plot because he mixed alcohol and diazepam (valium). He was friends with him since childhood.

I have heard that alcohol is the most addictive drug, although it is generally not considered a drug by the majority of society, but they are wrong.

Not only is alcohol a drug, it is responsible for the most drug related deaths in the world and is almost certainly the most dangerous.

I think that award goes to tobacco, actually.

Statistics say no, at least in the U.S. Tobacco is definitely second on the list, though. Then prescription drugs take the next few places after that.

According to the WHO, around 6 million die from tobacco and 3 million die from alcohol, worldwide.

          I'm not at all surprised.
Alcohol abuse (especially long term) is devastating to the brain and body.
But it's not the most dangerous, it kills the most people because it's the most consumed.
For example, heroin is far more dangerous.

Tolerance is a real thing. It can be due to different factors, mostly though it's tied to your body size and (or) how often you drink.

I realise that, but I've also known many heavy drinkers who are in total denial about how much it affects their behaviour, health, driving ability, sexual prowess ......
