I worked out so hard i temporarily went blind. iin?

Today I went to the gym so I could work on my core. I was three exercises in and my body still felt ok; I always took the necessary rest between sets. It wasn't until my fourth exercise (batwing row) that my body felt exhausted. When I stopped twice between reps I decided to call it a day.

Once I got into the locker room I started feeling disoriented. My vision started fading away and about a minute or two later I couldn't see at all. I was somewhat frightened, but calm. Once people were aware I wasn't feeling alright, they assisted me to a sofa and gave me some water.

I felt embarrassed, yet glad everyone cared about me. I gave myself twenty minutes to regain my vision and after that I was well enough to drive home.

It was a scary experience, but I think I know the cause of it. I'll make sure to take extra precautions next time. I don't know how common this is among seldom gym-goers and gym rats, but is this normal?

You might have diabetes. The exercise dropped your blood sugar dangerously low, which caused the blindness.

    You should see a doctor.

    Probably this:

Commonly known as a dizzy spell or head rush, due to sudden low blood pressure.

It sounds like this could be normal. Stay hydrated and don't push yourself. It could have stemmed from dehydration, dizziness, or stress. Be careful.

Did you go full black like at night in a lightless room or was it color spots fizzing everywhere?

Yeah, I'd see a doctor and ask for an MRI if I were you.

    • I drank about four glasses of water before going to the gym. I think the problem was I wasn't breathing properly during reps.

Oh, that happens when I lie down for a long time in a dark area while looking at something bright. If I suddenly get up, my vision would fade for a few seconds.

But be careful. Maybe you overdone it... Make sure to take short breaks once in a while (which you did and was good). Even if you don't think you need one, you should do it.
Also, is this your first time in a while? If so, your body may not be used to it as much. (Like how I would do curl-ups/sit-ups before and nothing would hurt after. I took a break from that for a bit, but when I did it again, my core was slightly sore after.)
Oh! Also, it's good that they had you get on the sofa and drink water. When you take breaks, drink it (Not too much, or it'll give aches when you exercise.). If not, you'll get dehydrated and exhausted easily.

    • I'll be honest, I'm new to the gym. This was my second time ever going there. My workout was rigorous because the dumbbells I used were rather heavy. Like I told someone else, perhaps I wasn't breathing correctly during reps. Maybe I pinched a nerve.

Maybe. I remember when I first got torticollis, my family thought I might have pinched a nerve because the back of my head would go numb once in a while...

I hope you get better soon! Ask a doctor first before going to another workout, though.
