I wish they'd discover a new element....

....and make it's symbol a "J". Then I could get some of it, put it next to a piece of lead and have Pb&J.

I've wished for this for many moons, but it has yet to come to pass. Let's make it happen, folks!! Go to school for science and find me that "J"!!

Seriously though, IIN? Am I the only one who has ever thought of this?

Regrettably, if we did discover a new element it would have a very high atomic number, (since all the elements with an atomic number below about 134 have been discovered) and therefore will be highly unstable, radioactive, and most likely have a half life of several nano-seconds...what I want is a new material, akin to carbon fibre, but self regenerating somehow...that would be a laugh...

Elements up to #118 have been identified. We are a long way off from the theoretical stable island.

    • That would be great if they made regenerating underwear with built in nut protection. I tend to let my underwear get so old they essentially turn to dust before I buy new ones, and the protection for my junk would be great.

Well I can't possibly argue with that.

They will likely find a stable island of elements around the atomic number 126. Current theories project this, due to the energy states being particularly stable, so that the instability caused by the coloumb forces and other intra-atomic forces is 'cancelled out'.

It would be awesome if they did create a new element. So we can make a nuke from it! :)

A new element would be very exciting indeed. Imagine the things you could do with it (:

You can't do new things with new elements, because they're not stable. When they discover new elements these days, it means they've been able to create them in a laboratory for a tiny fraction of a second.

      • Seriously, shut up!!

I bet you're the same fucking asshole who has to tell people who are eating a salad that tomatoes are actually fruit, and tell people using an ATM machine that saying "ATM machine" is redundant because the "M" stands for machine. Fuck off. Nobody likes that shit. We know, OK? We're having fun. Say it with me....FUN. Yes, FUN.

Oh, I wanted to add that since I was a kid, I've been thinking of lead as "the peanut butter element". So no, you're not the only one.

          • Of course you did, of course you did. So did probably 3/4 of the rest of the kids. The key here is wishing for a "J". Did ya do that too? Did ya, sport?

I did not! I did wish for other letter sometimes, so I could spell things.

…what? Why are you so mad at me? I don't understand what I did wrong.

I mean, I know people are having fun, but I saw it as an opportunity to talk about real science. I find that fun. It's fine to say "Ok, yes, this wouldn't happen, but let's imagine!", but it can also be fun and interesting to say "What would really happen, though?" It seemed like this person might be interested in science, since they're enjoying imagining new elements, so I thought they might be interested in hearing about it. If you don't find that fun, that's ok. You don't have to talk to me about it. You don't have to be so rude, though.

Seriously though, are you ok? Are you having a bad day or something? You seem really angry. I don't have IIN gold, but if you do, and you need to talk about anything, feel free to message me.

No, I am pretty sure you are the only one who has ever thought of finding a new element for that purpose specifically.

    Congratulations :P

        I would have thought mathematical.

By the way. The J/ψ is a subatomic particle, a flavor-neutral meson consisting of a charm quark and a charm antiquark.

It's an incredibly practical vehicle. I forgive it's looks more than I would an Scion xB, Kia Soul, or Nissan Cube because the Element is functional far beyond "it looks like two cardboard boxes taped together."

I'm not saying I would buy one (although I did consider it for about 49 seconds), just that it wasn't designed with beauty in mind; the looks are secondary to it actually being usable.

They also aren't really designed to last very long compared to the old shit man. Im not interestes in dealerships either. You can't work on those new microchip bullshit things. I couldn't anyway. No thanks to begin with. I'd rather buy a carburetor than a toaster. I'm very bitter toward new cars I'm sorry :( and don't even get me going on cars that parallel park for you! Seriouslyyyyy?!?!?!?!?!?!

Look, grandpa. I'm really sorry that you don't understand technology, but personally I think it's wonderful. I don't really have any issues working on my car (which was built in 2003), and I don't understand what would be so hard about it.

I will concede that there are certainly cars built today that are not designed to last very long, but there are also those that–if properly maintained–will. I'm pretty sure not every car from them "good ol' days" is still on the road… or even that all of them lasted some extravagant amount of time.

I would even go as far as saying that the overall quality of automobiles produced has increase since the 80s, especially when the steady decline of automobile-related fatalities since the mid- to late-1960s (at least in the United States) is taken into account.
