I watched him steal and didnt do anything about it

About a year ago, my mother and I were sitting ar an airport waiting to load the plane. There was a little gift shop beside where we were sitting and I saw a boy steal a key chain from it. I know he stole it because (a. I didnt see him pay for it and (b. when he came out of the shop, a man who looked like it could have been his father, was really excited and saying "good job! I am so proud of you!"
I knew axactly what was happening but mindlessly sat there and watched while I could have been preventing this poor child of stealing to please his father. Was it normal for me to do nothing?

How did the father saying "Good job son" indicate he stole it. I think the dad being proud would imply the oppisate.

the world is full of people that see bad things happen and don't say anything. its why people still steal; because they know that they can get away with it. One might say that you get a free pass because you were young, but be sure not to make this a habit.

I think it was normal for you to do nothing during the situation. Wouldnt have made a difference if you did. The father would probably tell his son to steal something else.
If that boy was young, he wouldn't know the consequences of shoplifting anyways. When I was six years old, I stole a bunch of green looking cellphone calculators in a store. I didn't get caught during that time but when my mom found a bag of stolen calculators, I was busted.

  • Normal to feel that you could have done something. Its not so much about the keychain - but rather - this father apparently corrupting his son.

But how much could you have done, in the airport, on the way somewhere, on what you saw? It is a bit awkward, and not much may have resulted in telling the clerk or Security anyway.

I agree with jimmyhsieh; if you aren't sure, don't act on it.

Well, you might be stunned at the scene, but you can't be sure if he actually stole it, maybe his father paid it before, or paid for it and forgot to take it. You can't be 100%% sure he's stealing. But, anyways, you're just stunned, wether he actually stole it or not.

I don't know anyone who would have done any different, and we all know that kid is going to learn to steal better stuff; maybe from us.

It starts with a keychain...I'm not sure if this is normal or not, You were probably just stunned on what you saw thats why you didnt say anything, I once saw a couple of kids stealing candy from a teacher at school and I didn't saya nything about it either, They got caught in the end anyway :)
