Never heard of an "inverted scrotum", but have heard of undescended testicles, because they're fairly common in infant boys.
My understanding is that if this problem is corrected before the boy is a year old, the odds are good that the testes will develop normally, and there shouldn't be problems with sperm production later in life.
In any case, there's nothing you can do about this now, so there's not much point fretting about it. Also, there are positive things to be said about having a low or zero sperm count. Kids can be a joy, but they can also be a huge headache, and they're always expensive.
No idea why your mother wanted this to be a big, dark secret. Like I said, the problem isn't unusual, and it's not like she did something that made it happen.
There's no point in getting stressed about this: see a doctor and find out whether or not you're fertile. It sounds as if you had undescended testicles, which isn't uncommon.
Welcome to the infertility club! But it looks like you can still manage to have kids thanks to good ol science.
I had an inverted scrotum and can't have kids, but look and function the same as anyone else. As I understand it, I'm the exception being sterile.
