I want to get my hair cut but its hard.

I've had my hair for almost 5 years now and its getting pretty long. Now let's be real, being an African American male and having my hair that long is pretty crazy. Well I'm getting tired of having my hair, but I'm afraid to cut it. I heard from some people to cut it because it will make me a more clean cut person. But others say keep my hair because ill look weird. What should I do? is it normal to feel like this about my hair?

Do something positive and donate it to charities or wig makers that make wigs for cancer patients.

It's normal to be apprehensive. I'm always a bit scared about cutting my hair but when I do it I like it and I'm glad I did. After a while of just admiring short hair from afar I've decided and been told it would suit me, so I'm gradually plucking up the courage... but it's hard! Wear it how you want it. Remember hair grows too.

Dont do it! My bf had super long hair n then he let ME cut it n he always talks bout how sick it was n the clean cut is cool but he will never be that original again unless he goes through it all over again... So cut it sure but why!? Really.. To make u look like the majority of the world.

I cut my hair a couple months ago and donated it to Locks of Love. All fourteen inches of it. I'm happy with the way I look now, but I really do miss it. Of course it will grow back and that's what I'm counting on so, I say go for it!

I've made the decision to do that in elementary school. As a male I found it odd and the kids, if I remember correctly, made fun of me for it every once in a while. So for me it was an easy decision. As of now I find it hard to change my appearance. But yah, I would find it normal.

  • Go to Wal-mart and get some basic hair trimmers for $12 or so. Run it over your head until you stop hearing the sound of hair being cut. You won't be sorry.

After 5 years, it won't hurt to try something new. Updating your look can be a positive thing.

Making such a transition with something as personal as the way you look is always going to be hard. It doesn't take long for you and the people you know to get used to the new look.

My advice is to cut it. You can always grow it back if you really don't like the new you.

I agree. I had a friend back in high shcool who was also male and black. He had been growing his hair for 6 years. He cut it for his girlfriend just before prom. He was scared just like you, but in the end no one cared what he looked like. If you like it, they'll like it. Get it cut because if you're comfortable with change.
