You can do this. You may already know who David Peterson is; a linguist (language creator/writer) and does this for a living. Having created the Dothraki language for Game of Thrones and a few others in series, he's very well known for this. Especially if you're a sci-fi/Game of Thrones fan.
This video is one of my favorites, with him, it simplifies this prospect:

It's absolutely impressive -- and awesome if you can master it.
I made an alphabet once. I like to think how someone chooses to write or speak their made up language reflects on their personality or biology. Like, a certain way of structuring it could mean something. I wonder what my made up language would sound most like. I'm thinking it'd sound like Hungarian. Sounds most natural to me. Do you ever think of things like that? Maybe I'm rambling a little.
Edit: Romanian sounds even more natural to me. Neat to think about.

I think we tried that when we were like 6 or 7. We quickly grew out of it when we tired of keeping the string tight between the two tin cans.
I tried this many times as a kid, but I never got past the phonology. That was the part that really interested me. When it came to vocabulary I got bored really quickly. I'd love to talk about language with you! (:
I think it would be best if you just learned a real language so you can talk to real people -_-
I've made a written language once. But it was when I was 9, so I forgot.
But recently, I made another one... I think it's... okay... :/
According to mein research, the hobby which you are engaging in is called "conlang", und many famous writers have engaged in it, such as Tolkien who created several languages for der imaginary world of Middle Earth.
Personally I find created languages to be very fascinating - In fact, when I was a young boy, I was, a, how you say, "feral child" in mein father's lab und spoke to myself und my "imaginary" friends (don't know why they called them that; they seemed real enough to me!) in mein very own language. We played and learned science and had a lot of fun until some social workers found me and forced me to interact with a human family. Boo! :(
Working on one right now. It's crap though. It's only for a story so I just make up words as I need them, but I'm still trying to give it a little internal consistency.
That's definately normal. It's interesting too I might add. Have you developed words and ideas for it yet? If so, please let me know. :)
I don't know if I'd ever like to make a language of my own but learning a new one would be nice.
Somebody already constructed a superior language. It's called ESPERANTO. Wikipedia has a good article on it.
