I want to be veiled in chador (iranian garments)

You know the clothes that women wear in Middle Eastern countries that only show their eyes?

Iran is the most intensive of them all. Their most conservative Chador available don't even SHOW the eyes, there is a black slit that is loosely hanging over their face, so all you see is black, and not any aspects of her features, but she can see you.

I want to wear that.

#1) I CAN NOT AFFORD DECENT LOOKING CLOTHES. Keeping up with trends is bullshit. In the time it takes to open up a magazine, ooh and ahh over what's hot, get your hands on money to buy it, and put it on, a new magazine comes out and completely insults your new style.

#2) Men keep watch on your body constantly. While my male co workers will go up to their "guy friends" and high five and talk about work, life, friends, etc. The first thing they do when they see me is compliment how great my ass looks in my work pants, and talk about how they want to be my "man". I'm sick of it!! If I was in chador, you would be forced to get to know me as a person, NOT an object!!

#3) The "surprise" factor. When I take off my veil and I look beautiful its completely different then looking beautiful and half naked all the time, like what sluts like to do nowadays. It makes me nauseous.

Its an air of mystery.

#4) When you cover up with a blanket, you feel secure, no doubt. Thats basically what chador is, one big comfy blanket.

#5) Because the hair, body, and sometimes face is covered, you don't have to go to great lengths to pretty yourself up when you walk out the door. Women are expected to look like models when they go to the grocery store, gym, etc, where as men can roll out of bed, comb their hair, spritz on cologne and go. I dump about $1000 on beauty products in a year, between tanning, hair styling, and makeup, which will damage hair, and age your face and skin. With chador, you only need makeup when you show your face, you only need to tan when going to the beach, and you only need to do your hair when absolutely necessary.

#6) Yes I am self-conscious about my body. I will never be perfect. Ill either be too fat, too thin, too pimply, too pale, too tan, too muscular... etc, with Chador, its no matter, they'll never know if you put on 5 lbs after christmas.

#7) Men will actually have to make an EFFORT to get to know you. Women won't be as shallow, they will have to actually form PERSONALITIES instead of money to buy fake breasts. You'd have to be a more wholesome person.

#8) It just looks badass

Men won't be able to judge you based on your body, and women won't judge you based on the clothes you wear. Its amazing! Pure genius! I would love it! Im thinking about moving to the middle east just for the physical freedom!

Ladies, do you agree?

U hv to go Saudi Arabia, there U can finde the Niqab, this the one u r talking abt and confusing with shador....

moving to the middle east for more physical freedom as a woman... i guess you can take anything and turn it around to see a whole new angle.

  • ^ above yeah, no. not ALL men are like that. Only the VERY religious. Many dosent care but would rather have their wives covered. I agree with the poster of this and her reasons. I am Muslim and I can wear what ever I want as long as it's not short or sleevless. But I rather wear long pants and long sleeves. But yeah I believe this is normal. You don't like how men judge on looks and not inner beauty. You go girl (:

You're obviously a troll. The Middle East is about as far from "physical freedom" as it gets. Women in Western countries have so many more freedoms than women in other parts of the world. Too many to name. Criticizing the way things are here makes you seem really entitled and ignorant about the world

You said that you dump $1000 a year towards all those things, am I really reading that wrong? I think you wrote SO very much here about superficial issues without much understanding of history or culture.

I actually do understand history and culture of Iran, considering I have studied it. I know about the divides between cultures and seperate sanctums of Islam. I know the struggles it causes and I am very well versed about the invasions of Iran and its revolutions.

But did I say I wanted that? No I did not.

And I am not being superficial. The mass media portrays a standard for women to be perfect, adhere to a certain body type and to a personality regarded as vulnerable silent, uneducated and innocent, and women are expected to show as much skin as possible. Because of this unconsciouss and conscious reinforcement that bombards a person's senses in the mass media, from cigarette ads, to laundry ads, its impossible to turn on the tv, read a magazine, drive down the road or even set foot out of your front door without a reminder of "women are inferior", and chador speaks out against this. Women who fail to adhere to this image are unacceptable and therefor unworthy as a person, in the eye's of men and sometimes in the eeyes of other women.

I don't think there's anything superficial about using an entire race (the female gender) as an exploitation object as it is encouraged by the media today. Pull the stick out of your ass and open your eyes.

Seriously, if you are that unhappy just stop the tanning, expensive clothes, hair, and make-up and wear baggy clothes if you don't want male attention. This is a ridiculous post with no depth of thought.

When you say 'this is a ridiculous post with no depth of thought' you do realize you are referring to your own post, right?

I don't want male attention and I won't sacrifice or compromise my style in any way to please them. I am very unhappy towards the way females are treated, and I don't tan or buy expensive clothes or go out of my way to look good, but I know so many women who do and it distracts from a woman's real beauty. I don't do the things outlined in my post, dumbass, and if you won't have read the whole thing instead of pointing the finger so fast then you would understand.

By the sound of it, You're white, middle/Uppper class and have never met a muslim/middle easterner.

        Or you're a troll.

Why do you feel forced to live up to so many standards? I mean, I'm kind of a perfectionist too and think about ways to improve and wish certain parts of me looked a certain way, but I don't feel FORCED to. I buy clothes I like and wear makeup because I enjoy it and feel like I'm treating myself well. I may be a typical (though rather cheap) consumer, but most of it isn't because I feel overly judged without it.

Middle easterners are really messed up. I used to find them intriguing, until I dated one.

i think you would not like the way islamic women live! they're forced to wear the chador cuz their husbands want their wifes to be covered from feet to head. if a woman shows her hand or ankle , she might be slapped or kicked cuz it's considered as a disrespect.
i've never judged a man on the clothes he wears but on his attitude and personality. And you should not care about other people comments. Be yourself, ignore them. Be aware of your worth and go on! nobody is perfect...i'm plump and short. my hair is curly and swollen but i love myself the same cuz i've got so many skills.yes i'm not beautiful but beauty won't last forever. so you should develop other qualities...trust me! focus on your abilities and you will feel better
