It is and should be a privilege for any man to protect someone he loves or care for.

I was discussing this the other day, I think I feel the need to protect someone, to wrap my arms around someone and provide them with safety, but I don't like the trait, its not the 50's anymore and women definitly don't need a man to make them feel confident and secure, as they shouldn't have to yet a part of me wants to just be able to provide protection, growing up in a house like mine? You end up wanting to give others a feeling of security you never really had

    • I agree. I do think I'm independent, though; I'd just prefer to have extra support I think.

I think it's a pretty normal thing to feel protective about anyone you care about, especially those obviously weaker than you.
But it's important, with some people at least, to let them fight their own battles & only step in when necessary...
Just knowing you have their back is enough for some.

OP, are you talking purely physically or emotionally, etc as well?

      • Good question - mainly emotionally, e.g. being stood up for, but also just being held would make me feel safe.
Physicality is not a priority for me; strangely, perhaps, I feel protected when someone is intellectual, which I am highly attracted to.

          OK. Totally normal IMO...
& also normal for guys to feel protective of their partners.

I'd prefer to take care of myself but I guess there are some people out there who want to be protected. Athough it's better to be tough enough to be on your own.
