I want to be a stripper....

I'm thinking: relatively easy money for dancing, which I'm sexy at.

But, I'm also thinking...I might not always be 130% bubbly and in the mood to bullshit and flirt. I'm not sure I can always fake that. Other than that---I'm going to take some pole classes to get my confidence up. And continue working on my physique, than schedule an audition...

Normal or Nay? I kind of feel like I need reassurance :/

Well it looks like you've made your mind up already. Just one thing; if you have children in the future or if you have got children now you couldnt tell them that you were once a stripper could you? It will be too embarrasing to say. So why do it? Yh i know times are tough but find another job like being a sales assistant or even cleaning! Thats much better than what you're intending to do now. By stripping you may earn more but if you dont do it at least you wont be looking like a piece of meat to guys and lose respect. Anyway good luck.

            • Why would it be embarrassing to tell your kid you were a stripper 15 years before they were born? I'm not even guaranteed 15 years or children.

how is scraping pennies off the floor better than pole dancing? why would I do it the hard meaningless way, if I can do it the easy meaningless way?

We are all, only, pieces of meat waiting to be used to some effect or another. You care too much about what other people think of you.

I care too, of course. But I'm intent on having a good life, in which I don't hold back on my sometimes whimsical fleeting fantasies.

I wouldn't say its wrong (different strokes for different folks) but it can be very demeaning. There is a high, HIGH chance of sexual harassment and abuse in those places. I just feel that any woman who wants to protect her person shouldn't be working at those kind of places.

      Changing perspectives, I guess.

I think a lot of people feel dancing around naked and getting paid for it is OK if you're the one calling the shots. If you don't mind being a piece of meat for people to stare at, if you aren't humiliated or demeaned by that, then why not make a load of money doing it? It's the OP's life and the OP's body.

I mean if I was confident enough, had a great body, didn't find it humiliating and could put up with the stigma, I'd try being a male stripper ha but none of those things apply to me so I wouldn't do it.

If that's how you feel then exactly, why not do it?

I'd just recommend you go for a classy place with good security, a trustworthy employer and respectful clientele, rather than a bottom-end, sweaty club with gropey men, a dodgy owner and bad security.

          • I like how you casually insert absolutes into statements to make a point where there is none.

I didn't say that is all I am, that is a part of what I am in this urban jungle. That is a truth. We are animals. Take off all your clothes bitch, that's what you are. An animal. That's what men ultimately care about, as you ultimately care about procreation, food, water, etc.

God forbid I stamp a price on something that will have a price on it anyway, because there is a price on everything and don't you forget it :)

What sets us apart from animals is the fact that we can think and reason and have deep emotions. We are biological beings but we are not animals in the classic sense.

All human beings, male or female have the need for sex. it is the driving factor behind romantic relationship and as you listed procreation. but seeing as we are creature whom are both biological and divine all at once, doesnt mean that we should use one part of our make up to justify certain behaviours. Sex is something to be enjoyed granted, but no matter which way you cut it or try to justify it there is just something sleazy and undesirable about the occupation you are contemplating. Sure men care about sex but not all men go to strip clubs or to rub and tugs or hookers. That kind of environment usually attracts a certain type of man and it takes certain types of women willing to work in those conditions.

Like i said this seems to be the job for you as you have prove by your statement that the animal in you takes precedence over any kind of divinity you may possess.

And PS its really hard to take anyone seriously who has to resort to calling their adversary a "bitch" in a debate as you have.

Go for it. There's nothing wrong with it.

It IS rough though. It's rough on your body, it's a tough work environment and it can be depressing. It's extremely competitive and catty. The things I've seen fist fights break out over range from playing the wrong song to talking to the wrong guy and anything and everything else. The class of the club doesn't always matter, the dirtiest clubs can easily rival the nicest in terms of prostitution activity. You may never consider prostitution-and that's fine- but if every other girl in the club is doing it, you're not going to make any money. You'll have to find another club.

Some clubs are very abusive with your 'pay'. 99% of strip clubs will consider you an 'independent contractor'. What that means to you is, you get ZERO benefits under the law. They can tell you WHEN, WHERE and HOW to work, don't have to provide you with anything work-related besides the facility, and how much you get from things like private dances, and you can be fired for ANY reason (weight, hair color, etc). The club will always get a cut of your private dances, how much that is depends on the club and some clubs will even withhold your money for days holding it over your head to essentially force you to keep working. You have no recourse if you're injured at work (and that happens a lot) no sick pay, no nothing like that.

You can review all of the policies before you agree to work so be smart and read the contract, talk to the girls who work there and get a feel for the place. Go in as a customer and feel things out.

You CAN do great and it's not all bad but it's not as simple as 'get up there and dance', there's a lot more to it. Just choose the club carefully and you should be OK.

Not one stripper is 130% bubbly and in the mood to bullshit but it's part of the job. You just have to do it. And this applies to any other job, not stripping. If you are in a job that deals with the public, e.g working in a shop, you have to leave all your problems at home, slap on a smile and act friendly and bubbly.
That's the way jobs are. You have to pretend to be in a good mood when you really aren't.

Look, I've applied to be a stripper before and know many strippers/escorts personally. You really don't need to act like you "desire" your client. Just act happy/flirty and get on with the job. You don't need to act like you are in love with them and need them in your life, they really don't care.

I've considered it myself, it would be a lot of fun and good money for doing something I would find enjoyable. I did find a place for poledancing classes and would like to learn anyway, good excercise and that acrobatic shit impresses the hell out of me.

But every time I really think about wanting to do it I worry about my future job prospects if the employer knew what I did, what my family would think.... It's a shame there's such a stigma attached to it.

If you're ok with whoring yourself out (its selling sex so it is a form or prostitution) go for it! You also must have a need for male attention...most of those girls do.

Every stripper I have ever known though has said that it sucks away a piece of your soul and many of them were heavy drinkers and drug users while they were dancing.

Also, depending on the club its not just dancing. Some clubs have live lesbian sex shows on stage and a lot of these girls end up doing sexual favours when presented with large amounts of money. It ain't always just dancing sweetie.

Also, depending on what career path you take this could come back to haunt you. We live in the information age where people can find out pretty much anything about you, so bear that in mind to that the senior partners at, lets say a large prestigious law firm, would definitely pass up someone with a shady employment history, simply because if it ever got out it would embarrass the firm. I know of law firms that make you sign contracts that state that there is nothing that could come to light down the road that would embarrass or damage the reputation of the law firm. And I work in a big firm so I should know.

Why don't you try doing something less frowned upon, because lets face it, people still frown upon this line of work. You can say it doesnt matter to you but it will when men refuse to seriously date you because of it, or your family finds out and gets upset over it or the above future job situation presents itself.

Burlesque is a great way to make money, its sexy without that unpleasant element to it that stripping has and gives you a chance to show off your dancing skills.

Or be a server at a high end restaurant. They make a killing all with keeping their clothes on, or be a bartender or a shooter girl at a club. There are plenty of ways to make good money while still maintaining your dignity.

    • 1) Being a pole dancer is not easy and takes a lot of athletic prowess. It's not selling a blowjob, or selling a fuck.

      2) I have a need for money. Men are men. They are there.

      3) Well, I guess I'll have to find out for myself :). I am not a drug user or alcohol abuser, but thanks for the heads up, useless as it may have been.

      4) I decide what it is and isn't, sweetie.

      5) I also don't plan on working at a law firm. I think it's funny you mention a law firm because I know a few corporate lawyers, doctors, bankers, and the like, who participate in pretty illicit activity. Ah it's a hoot. you think the people you work for are saints. HA.

      6) I don't care about people who don't care about me.

7)I want to swing on a pole and do crazy tricks.

1.) If you think the men watching you are admiring your athletic skill you are wrong. You are selling a blow job or a "fuck" or whatever else they have on their minds...its a STRIP CLUB not the Pole Dancing Olympics so don't kid yourself.

2.) I have just listed several lucrative ways to make money without having to be in that kind of environment that still involve sucking money out of men. You think men won't tip a good looking waitress well? Or a hot shooter girl at a dance club? They will. I have worked in that industry and I am a very good looking woman ;)so I know first hand.

3.) If you have not spoken to anyone who has worked in the industry I suggest that you do, because it seems that you really don't know what you are getting yourself into. The girls I went to high school with who went down that path weren't addicts when they started but became that way because it is a hell of a lot easier to take your clothes off in front of a bunch of strange men when you are drunk or high off your ass.

4.) You say that now, that you will decide what you will and will not do. There is a price on everything you say...so how much will it take to get a blow job or fuck from you? $50, $200, $500 $1000? And like another poster said, there is lots of prostitution that goes on in these places and if you aren't putting out you won't have many clients and wont make that much money. So again, what's your price?

5.) I am well aware of corporate corruption, however, corporations and business men still have images to maintain and reputations that they do not want tarnished. It doesn't matter what goes in outside the office but they don't want to bring any of that riff raff into the office which could potentially embarrass them or damage their reputation in the business world. I am not that naive and I do have life experience, something you seem yo be lacking (you sound young).

6.) Those famous words..I don't care. You do care. If you really truly did not care you would not have bothered answering my post, nor would you have posted this topic to begin with. The fact that you came on the internet seeking approval from strangers means that you do care what other people think. And you are clearly not sure of this choice as you felt the need to ask strangers for their reassurance. And then you sit there listing reasons trying to justify your choices. Who are you trying to convince? me or yourself? I have a feeling its the latter.

7.) You can be a go-go dancer at a night club they make good coin and get to keep their skimpy outfits on at least.

        • 1) Yeah, that will be part of what they're admiring, sure. No, I wouldn't be selling a sexual favor. I'd be selling a fantasy and entertainment.

          2) None of what you listed was really "lucrative".

          3) I know you want to think everyone is a potential drug addict, but some of us just don't like drugs.

          4) Well, a 1000 is not enough to hit this.

          5) Corporate corruption? No, that's not what I meant. I meant they certainly dabble in prostitution and drugs.

6)I thought it would be an interesting post. I surely wanted to see what people would say. My mind is made. This post has nothing to do with my personal contacts.

Unless you want to go into politics at some point down the road, I'd say go for it if you really don't care. But if you really don't care, why did you post about it? If you're having second thoughts, I'd say don't do it. Sometimes things that seem okay in your head aren't in real life. I have no moral objections to stripping, but you really need to be sure that you want to do this.
