I want my nan to die

I just want her to pass. She is in a care home she is not happy she is very weak she cries a lot and has severe dementia. That's no way to live... my mum is always visiting her and getting upset as well. I don't want to remember her like this.

is it normal I want a loved one to just peacefully pass away?

It's called dying with dignity and once again the religious freakazoids have stuck their fucking immoral morals into everybody's lives.
Just one more reason to revile religions and the hypocrites that follow them.

I was a bit worried when I saw the title but after reading it, yeah I want her to die too. I feel the same about my great-grandma. She has severe Alzheimer's and doesn't even remember her own daughter. I only met her once but it was really upsetting and it's just been getting worse. I agree that your grandmother is most likely better off passing away peacefully. Hopefully your family will find some happiness that she is no longer suffering and find room to celebrate her long, wonderful life instead of mourn her death.

It's difficult for anyone to see a loved one suffering and gradually losing their dignity and very identity through something like dementia. You are perfectly normal and not alone.

The fact that you are upset by her condition is entirely your problem and it doesn't matter that she doesn't remember her own daughter: statements like this undermine the case for assisted suicide because they're based on other people's issues and not the central person's wishes.

gypsysailor is entirely correct in holding religious nuts responsible for the fact that in almost all countries we can't have our own lives ended when we've clearly stated in advance that we don't want to go on living in certain circumstances.

What really bothers me is that the people who oppose assisted suicide, like those who oppose abortion, never seem very concerned about soldiers and civilians getting killed in wars, family violence, industrial 'accidents' resulting from neglect and so on and on and on.

And that's because it's about controlling other people's choices ... but that's not what religions are about, is it?

Oh but it does, because if not for that she could choose to die when & how she wanted and someone could help if she wasn't physically capable of it, without them running afoul of the law
