I value security more than freedom
I see a lot of people saying how freedom means the world to them, and they pity people from countries with any restriction on freedom. I personally do not care so much about being free, as long as I am properly secure. I mean I would much rather live in a totalitarian state that cares for its people than a poor, dangerous anarchy. Now, I realize that there are totalitarian societies that fail to care for their people like North Korea, and that there are democratic societies that do care like the USA (at least "more" free than other democracies). However, I think people's obsession with freedom is going way too far, for example people defending and praising slander and threat sites simply because they are "free". If I was given the choice between either being free as a tiny bird in the sky with millions of eagles trying to kill you or a tiger in a zoo, I'd choose to be that tiger (as long as I was born in captivity).
Now before you guys pull up that Benjamin Franklin quote, I will NOT sacrifice "essential liberties" for a "little temporary security". However, I would give up a lot of freedoms to purchase permanent security.
Is this normal?
