I turn racist against anyone who is racist towards my race

I tend to start getting racist feelings against the race/ethnicity of anyone who says something hateful and hurtful enough against my race. I mean I almost never get racist feelings against any race even after seeing many stereotypical videos, no matter how deplorable it gets. Even seeing those gang videos of certain races doesn't even give me any racist feelings. However, when someone of a certain race/ethnicity starts getting racist against my race/ethnicity I start getting racist feelings against the perpetrator's (with the sole exception of the individuals I know). These feelings are typically only quelled when I see any of the following:
-Enough people from his/her race condemn the racist action
-I see an equal amount people saying equally hateful comments against that race, ideally from mine
-Enough people from his/her race who love my race
Also, if the race of the person saying hateful things against my own is actually one that enough people of my race say hateful things against, then I typically just let it slide and don't get any bitter feelings at all.

For example, if there are (a fictional) people called Elbonians who are typically stereotyped as suicide bombers, even seeing the suicide bombing videos and such will not give me racist feelings against them, but when I start seeing a significant amount of Elbonians start to say stuff like "I hate [my race] they are disgusting and I hope they all die" I start getting racist feelings against Elbonians that can only be quelled if I either hear at least a lot other Elbonians condemn such racist statement, see something equally hateful against Elbonians with the same amount of public support, or see an equal amount of Elbonians saying positive things about my race.

Is it normal to have these feelings?

Normal because it's common enough and that's one way how racism is perpetuated. But it's not the right way of course to deal with these feelings. What happens I think is that we lose faith in people. We are reminded that among people there are some bad people. Anyone different than you could be racist. However, I'm sure if you met someone of the race you would feel slightly annoyed but if they turned out nice you'd be fine. At least you recognize this. Just remember that focusing on the good in people will help you to ignore the bad. Racism is a universal flaw, not a flaw of a particular race.

Well, if enough people from a certain ethnicity treats you bad OF COURSE YOU WILL START TO BE A BIT SUSPICIOUS.

I do NOT view myself as a racist but I'd never, ever ever accompany a immigrant from countries with a poor view of women because I have heard enough shit and rather stay the hell out of that entirely.

Now, I do NOT disrespect nor treat these people badly-I just keep a certain distance to them.

    • Oh I don't disrespect or treat them badly at all. I just get racist feelings. The way I treat all races remains the same.

I dont think its normal. I'm black and there is a lot of racism out there against people of my race. But I in turn am not racist nor do I harbor racist feelings towards any specific race just because there may be a few turd nuggets of their kind. I'm lucky enough to have many friends of all colors and from different backgrounds which reminds me that not every one is the same. Not everyone see's color or is a bigot, or a racist. I've also traveled outside the country which opened my eyes to how its not all about what race you are in different parts of the world. You see, when I was in the UK, people didn't identify me as black, I was identified as the American. As if that was an entirely different race of its own.

I dunno why, but when i thought of you as black/hispanic/asian i was like, "So absolutely normal". But when i thought of you as white i was like,"RACIST BASTARD!"
Oh God, does that mean I'M racist?

You are racist either way. People who are truly not racist don't even notice differences between races. I.e. they are unicorns.

I think it's normal to have our own self-defense mechanisms to deal with issues according to our own standards. It might not be socially acceptable though, to use racism in any case.

In short, normal to defend yourself but the method may be controversial.

That's a very curious feeling. I don't know if it's average or not, but it's an interesting perspective. It makes a lot of sense and deserves to be talked about.

Natural defence mechanism, I never thought I could be racist at all until I saw a facebook post of a African nationalist who said that white women should be raped and I just . . .saw red.

I think this is where a lot of racism comes from. People will be racist to one race and so in turn that person becomes racists to whatever race they are. Since they associate this race with the racist.

You have to realize while a group from that race might be racist to you it is not the entire races fault. I use to have people pick on me for not being Japanese which greatly irritated me.

I started hating everything associated with the Japanese since it reminded me how shitty I was for not being born as a Japanese. Its not all of japans fault I was being treated horribly though.

I was also originally very into Japanese culture but I was not willing to renounce my race and go worship a Japanese person and become their slave.

If a white person is told every day by a black person "You are worthless for not being black" that person is going to start hating black people since they can never be black. If a black person is told everyday by a white person "You are worthless for not being white" they will start hating white people.

Since they are told they are worthless next to that race and when this claim is unjustified they associate the entire race with bullying and the source of their bullying. Hating a person for being born a certain color is not something they can change. So its an unjustified attack. You can change behavior and everything else but you can not change race.

      • Oh I don't really hate any person. I keep all these feelings to myself and never actually express racism, even with full anonymity. It's just I get a bad feeling.

  • That's pretty racist.

    Huh?
So you are saying; Am I a racist? Yes, absolutely. But why am I a racist? Because others are. Huh?
