I think that girls calling each othr endearing names is stupid , iin?

Im a girl but i dont go calling every girl hun, baby, babe etc like most girls do. i just think its stupid and the fact that i see that majority of girls say it to others they dont even know much. I feel it should be only said to those people who truly mean something or are super close otherwise it looses its meaning because it is over used if u knw what i mean, what do u think?

I think having nicknames that are endearing for the ones you love or are close to you is great to make them feel special. However I know of women who do this to strangers, even me sometimes, and I'm not comfortable with this 'cause I don't even know her and I feel like she's not taking me seriously.

I guess the equivalent for guys is calling everyone "mate", "buddy", "pal", "bruv", "fam", "fella", "man", "bro"...

I don't mind people using terms of endearment with strangers - it's a handy way of addressing someone without actually saying their name. It's not as formal as 'sir' or 'miss', and usually communicates that the person is friendly.

I think over use of those terms can seem weird or forced, as can using them inappropriately - like if you use them sarcastically or in a condescending way, or in a formal setting.

But generally, they're just casual friendly terms to address people by.

I have problems saying names or hearing my name be said (unless it's calling out to someone to get them to turn around, but I hate it in conversation). It's a long story. That's why I greet my friends with "cutie" "gorgeous" "beautiful" etc and when I use "hun" "sweetheart" and things like that it's in a conversation that is emotionally difficult for them. I see pet names as kind of... gentle I guess. Using a name to me feels like pinning someone down, demeaning them in some way. That's the only reason I do it, but even then it's sparingly.

    • I totally understand the different levels of relationships however you cant have a relationship with everyone ,its impossible, therefore its unusual to give aquaintances a form of endearment in regards to words such as un, bae, babe etc…A term of endearment is used to address or describe a person, animal ,inanimate object for which the person feels love or affection. EG- you rarely hear guys calling other females hun, babe etc unless they have some sort of relationship with them. The less often words that have meaning are thrown around randomly the more special it becomes and feels.

Sympathy could be part of it...girls are more social.
Just meeting someone I might not use tye word....but even after a few min of talking I could call them hun.

        Example...
someone was nice helped me carry something a response I might give them is "thank you hun" especially if they are younger then me.
