I will start with saying I don't completely understand their or American culture either. I am fan of Eminem but since he collaborated with Royce and Slaughterhouse, I started noticing how Royce keeps claiming he is gangster and shit. And soon I started noticing how all rappers reference all geeky stuff like games, windows, youtube, twitter, skype etc. And now some rappers just seem phony and geeks to me.

    Technology is a huge part of American culture. The majority of people here use iPods, iPhones, the Internet and video games. Since these things are so ingrained in our culture, it would only make sense that our music would make reference to them.

    Using technology in and of itself isn't considered a "geeky" thing anymore.

    It's the people who dedicate their entire lives to it (programmers, engineers, gaming addicts) that are considered "geeky". Even then, being labelled as "geeky" is now considered a "cool" thing, like it's almost an honor or something.

    I hear the nuns in catholic schools were the best rappers EVER! One or two raps to the knuckles with a ruler and any kid would toe the line.
