I believe the punishments for non-violent offenders are far to harsh. I don't particularly like the idea of non-violent offenders going to prison at all, but I understand there must still be some sort of punishment. The idea of sending non-violent offenders to the same place as murderers and rapists, though is insane. I remember once reading a newspaper and noticing the conviction and sentence of a man convicted of murder, a man convicted of raping a child, and a man convicted of selling narcotics. The man selling narcotics received a sentence greater than the combined sentence of the other two. How does it make since, to take away a significant portion of someone's life, send them to a place to get beaten and raped, and give them a record that will ruin future career opportunities, when they have not even hurt anyone?

    I totally agree, but as long as prisons are run privately for profit this will continue.

    Selling narcotics isn't exactly a victimless crime though, depending on what the drugs were.

    I don't believe anyone committing a crime without a victim should be punished at all, let alone imprisoned: eg prostitution; growing cannabis & smoking or eating it and probably more examples I can't think of at the moment.

    The libtards want to keep the prison for profit system going.Drug busts are very lucrative for law enforcement. That is why they give such stiff penalties. Because if they don't keep so many people in the jails they won't be able to get the take write off and the prison system will go bankrupt.That is why we most vote trump. The communists want to put everyone in jail.

    i think the solution here is simple....legalise ALL DRUGS and make the death penalty MANDATORY for ANYONE who rapes and/or kills another person. non-violent offenders (spraypainting bike-stealing etc) can be punished at HOME under house arrest, cuz NO ONE likes to be grounded.

    I want leniency for people convicted of marijuana possession, but I don't care about hard drugs or people who steal. Pot should be legal though.

    I think it's pointless to put non violent offenders in jail for small crimes, pit smoking etc. if you damage property you should have to pay it back not go to jail... And pedophiles and psychopaths should be put to sleep like rabid animals.
