I think people who get scammed usually deserve it

I think people who are gullible or stupid enough to fall for a scam usually deserve it.

I always hear stories of people who have been scammed into giving money for fake building/home work or who have given out bank details on the phone and I always feel like they’re to blame for not being careful enough with their money.

I can’t help but admire a cleverly put together scam and the brazen way con artists approach their targets. I feel like if people are letting themselves be taken advantage of in this way then the scammer should have every right to do as they please.

I feel no sympathy for these supposed victims even when they are elderly as I feel that if they are that incompetent, they should not be given access to or allowed management of their own money.

Most people don’t “let it” happen to them. It’s a backwards way of thinking to blame victims for incidents rather than the perpetrators themselves, very similar to those who blame rape victims for “allowing themselves” to be raped by someone. Why would anyone WANT to be scammed? Sometimes scams ARE obvious, but the most you should be is disappointed or mildly annoyed at the victim for falling for something like that. I still wouldn’t want that happening to anybody.

I was scammed out of a fuck ton of money years back. At the time, I was ill and too medicated to realise what was happening. I don't think anybody deserves to be scammed, other than other scammers.

    • Nope, I just can't feel any sympathy for people who let things like this happen to them.

well some people are naive, it's not their fault. if your child was taken advantage of by a bully would you say it's your child's fault and not care? you ought to care more about people.

Older people often don't realize their mental acuity has declined, or aren't aware of new technology. Sometimes they are just happy someone is paying attention to them since their kids never visit.

It's really up to the kids, who have a vested interest in the inheritance, to keep grandma informed about the latest scams.

And no, I don't think they deserve to have their nest egg stolen by some shit bag.

Believe it or not many of those “grandmas” refuse to listen when advised but that’s a good way to keep them out of these scams

That's true. The stubborn ones who don't listen do deserve to have everything taken from them.

yep that's the harsh reality a person who has believed a scam is hard to persuade good luck trying

Well, that's a very shitty way to feel!

I don't believe in blaming the victim, because regardless of how clever the grifters, and con-men are it's still selfish, immoral, and unethical to seek to defraud vulnerable people! I honestly think that it takes a lot more character to use one's gifts, and talents for the good, than to simply do what is selfish, opportunistic and predatory in nature.

  • The only other person I met who felt this way was an autistic girl.

Use your blaming energy to blame the scammers themselves.

Nobody "lets" it happen. You're an ass and one day it will happen to you.

I got 3 different (scam) calls today calming that my ssn was being put on hold because of overdraft money with “the bank”, criminal activity with the “US Police” and because I owed money to “the government”. It was totally fake, but also annoyingly persistent so I googled it to triple check that it was, in fact, a scam.

Phone scams are dumb. If youre not expecting a call, dont answer. (I was expecting a job interview call today)

In short you are literally stating that the crimes that happen are meant to be and our fault is that we could not escape them.
Being aware is a good thing but then being a victim does not mean they deserved it.
