I think laziness is smart. hard work is stupid.

Laziness advances technology. Without this trait, we would still be using primitive tools while living in caves and toiling against mother nature for a meager existence. That would suck! Laziness sparks inventiveness. We could still be using stone tablets, but some genius realized a way to make things easier thus lazier. Laziness is smart. If I'm hiring, I want the creative lazy person. A hard worker cant figure out how to make things more efficient.

Sounds like you'll go far in life.
You have so much to look forward to; poverty, obesity, cardiac disease, kidney and liver troubles. Such a full life traveling from your couch to your doctors' offices.

    • Laziness doesn't mean sedentary, stuck indoors. Its just looking for a short cut. Or, if this was judo? Let your opponent work to let you win with less effort. Minimum effort, maximum efficiency.

Yeah, I know all about you smart ones who always think there is always a short cut.
My youngest is one of those. Quit high school at 15 and literally bought her GED in Miami. Only thing is, high school isn't about what you learn, it's about HOW to learn. So that led her to several tries at college, all which were miserable failures because she didn't (and still doesn't know how to use the tools available to get the info needed) know how to learn.
Then it was hair and nail school. Got the paper but wouldn't work for anyone to get experience and see how to run a business; failed at her own business.
Next (or maybe several other failures first?) it was, "I'm going to be a film director." "Cool." I said. She lived in central Fla where there a quite a few movie production companies. "Are you going to work for one of them and learn the trade?". "Nope, I'm going to start as a director. I have no interest at shlepping for other people!". Another fail.
Long story short, she can't keep a job because she's always trying to find the easy way.
Well, now she's in her mid 30's, almost unemployable, unhappy, has been a complete failure at EVERYTHING she's ever tried and she still thinks she's smarter than anybody else.
Yep, I know your type and my crystal ball does not show me a rosy future for you either.

My niece and her husband are very much like this. They want EVERYTHING in life handed to them on a plate with zero effort. Needless to say they are still doing pretty much nothing with their lives and still on welfare.

        • Next she wins the lottery and gets everything she ever wanted. You cant take it anymore and go on a killing rampage. Sure you get 10, 20 maybe a hundred people but there's to many and not enough time. SWAT comes in, tear gases your ass, your to smart for that and put on a gas mask. You take out a few cops here and there but their numbers just keep rising. Ammo running low, cant hold out much longer, so you push the button and detonate 25 lbs of c4 strapped to your hot bod. Your daughter hooks up with me and we both die of aids. Happy ending all around.

Laziness is a virtue, if everyone was as lazy as me there'd be no wars. We'd probably be a poor but rested nation.

    • Good idea. Peaceful laziness. I think of a smiling, happy Sloth. They're so cute. Your country would have the lowest stress level. Maybe be a country of paradise resorts? Yeah!

Laziness also means: "X country is being a douche? Screw sending a diplomat for negotiation/peace, I'm sending a nuke." Rested nations galore =P

      • Nukes are bad. Hello? Radiation and environmental degradation finds its way back to haunt you. Also, would a country really want to go down in history for doing that? Sure, it was done once. Hopefully, never again. Its mutually assured destruction. If X country is being a douche? These days, the big guns impose sanctions and butt around messing with trade tariffs to throw a country into the sticks. Its economic warfare.

If everyone is lazy nothing would get done. Those people who put in the effort into creating things for you lazy people had to work hard to create it. If there is no effort from anyone we cant progress. They say work smarter not harder but in order for anything to work we need someone to be willing to try. So in your world people would die of starvation since they were too lazy to even get food or keep a job. Also lazy does mean sedentary simply goofing off and not doing your work makes you a slacker. Slacking off is not the same as being lazy. A lazy person would sit on the couch doing nothing but watching tv. A slacker might say "Forget work lets go on a hike". Since they are not lazy but they dont feel like doing work. Slackers in fact have some motivation to do things which they enjoy and put effort into hobbies, but a lazy person has little if any motivation at all.

          • Work hard? Some people are compulsively inventive. They're working intensely, but its not hard to them. I think its that quote that says something like do what you love and you never work a day in your life. Something like that.

Again if there is no one willing to put in the effort nothing will get done. You can have all the knowledge in the world but if you are too lazy to use it guess what? ITS WASTED ON YOU!

Laziness discludes passion though, and there'd be no progress without passion. There needs to be a balance. Yes, we're designed to become easily complacent, but that complacency should naturally be succeeded by the spark of innovation. This cycle is the engine that drives humanity forward.

    • Where is humanity going? Hmmmm? Not sure if there is any destination exactly. Maybe the upgrade of life quality? That's one.

"Laziness discludes passion" <--- Good, provable point, yes. The Wright Brothers for example were passionate about figuring out how on earth to make their inventions truly fly. They couldn't just sit around waiting for it to happen. If they did that? Someone else would net this reward first.

Yet, whomever discovered and launched the Snuggie? LOL! Was that from laziness? It just preys on laziness. Wrap yourself in a Snuggie. You will feel cozy. It will inspire laziness.

That dude responsible for creating container ships. Laziness (or efficiency, either one) got us that one. His name is Malcom McLean. Thanks to him, logistics and distribution became epic in scale. Huge! I'm a nerd for this stuff, alright.

I guess a lot of inventors have laziness and creative drive sort of warring within them constantly. They probably reject most of their own ideas and only put the work in when there's a huge impetus. It's sort of like the procrastinating teenager who only studies when their grade on an exam could affect their final average and mean they could fail the year.
