I think communist is over used in america

I remember how a lot of people got mad that the term nazi was thrown around a lot. It was and is annoying and also stupid unless someone is advocating eugenics and calling for a authoritarian there is no point in calling them a nazi.

Now I have noticed that commie is used liberally and I feel its just as dumb. Unless your calling for the workers to control the means of production and calling for a authoritarian state I dont see a point in calling someone a commie.

My point is people get angry if you call them a Nazi yet people are silent when the commie label is thrown around. Is this just an American thing?

I know that there is more to the two ideologies both of which are trash.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Its just a buzzword that people see as BAD. Nazi, Racist, communist, these words have lost all their actual meaning because they're used just to villify things people don't like. Most people are dumb and see everything as black and white so its easy to attach negative words to things to manipulate people.

Are you saying XXX isn't a nazi/communist? What are you a nazi/communist too?

      Exactly.

I remember seeing a video of an American student saying that Ben Shapiro is a Nazi and should be silenced. In fact, I'm fairly certain that quite a few sources have accused him of being a Nazi. Now, I'm not easily shocked by things, but I certainly was shocked at that. I can't even begin to understand how you get to such a level of ignorance that you would think it ok to call a devout Jewish person a Nazi. That's so fucked up. Call him a bigot, a sexist, a homophobe or whatever, if you really think that he is. Fine. Those are specific terms that you might be able to back up with some evidence. But Nazi? Seriously? It's just fucking embarrassing.

The culture of silencing people who's ideas you dont like is really scary. Youtube is getting worse and worse with what they'll allow you to say on there. First it was videos about Sandy hook and that Mandalay Bay shooter being false flag hoaxes. Now its basically any "conspiracy" viewpoint, and anyone who says covid lockdowns are bad. There were 8-9 hour livestreams on youtube of people walking around those Minneapolis riots, they all got completely scrubbed. But you can find plenty of news clips about it.

Let every flat earther and Holocaust denier say whatever they want. If their opinions actually hold no value, and they actually have nothing to say, it'll be easy enough to debunk them. It's a slippery slope, because all you have to do is call anyone who's questioning the official narrative of WWII a "Holocaust denier" and they automatically get silenced.

It's all about fear. "Communist", "socialist" and "radical liberal" are slurs that the political right in the USA flings around in order to trigger their supporters. It's all about attempting to induce a state of terror that everything they value is under threat. The fact is that most American have very little idea what those terms actually mean. But those who benefit most from capitalism have worked for decades to convince Americans that they're all synonymous with "anti-American", so anyone who is one of those things is obviously evil incarnate.

One of the most hilarious things I've seen in a while was Kelly Loeffler staring blankly at the camera and robotically chanting "radical liberal Raphael Warnock" no no less than thirteen times during the recent Georgia senatorial debate. Whether or not Warnock would be called that by any objective assessor is irrelevant; it's a trigger phrase that Loeffler thinks will motivate her supporters to vote. (Although, since Loeffler appears to be about as bright as a ventriloquist's dummy, I'm pretty sure the phrase was actually programmed into her by Republican Party IT staff.)

You are right that "Nazi" is used in a similarly illogical and irresponsible way by those on the political left. Trump and the members of his cult aren't Nazis. Trump is definitely an authoritarian, and those who support him approve of his authoritarianism. I'm sure some even feel a desperate psychological need for an authoritarian pseudo father-figure.

Fascists are also authoritarians, and there are some aspects of Trump's view of the role the president which are rather fascistic. But as we've seen over the last few weeks, for all its faults and shortcomings, the American political system seems to (so far) still be robust enough to withstand an assault by a president who believes he should be allowed to keep the job just because he wants it.

I mean communists don’t want an authoritarian state so I really don’t think you do know about it. And anyway yeah it’s fucking stupid. People think somethings bad so they say it’s communist or fascist or some shit that it isn’t even. It’s just as stupid to think that the USSR encapsulates communism as a philosophy.

The word communist was over used in the 1950s and 60s. The issue at that time was a lot of countries were going communist around the globe so Americans at the time had plausible fear. Now is a different story.

  • I'm a belizean who has spent most of his life in America and I have only heard someone refer to communism in the way you are meaning a few times.

    • Trump spent four freaking years yelling commie at the top of his lungs along with the republican party. People even call Obama a communist.

Americans love throwing highly charged terms at people they dont like.

"workers to control the means of production"?
Actually the government controls the means of production but the government claims it doesn't exist and refers to itself as "The People".

Well it’s not actually supposed to exist. A country has never really gone by an actual form of communism, just as a name to cover up the sick shit they were doing.

Governments will always exist because someone always wants to be in charge.

    • I know that. If something sounds to good to be true then it most likely is. The USSR was a nightmare and just goes to show that people should be care what they follow. Not saying czarist Russia is any better that was also a nightmare that also collapsed on itself but its clear for all to see that the USSR was no better.
