I think child beauty pageants should be outlawed?

I think you should have to be 18 or older to participate in a beauty pageant. Little girls should not be prancing around wearing skimpy outfits and caked on makeup. Little girls should be going to the playground and playing with dolls. Don't these pageant moms realize they are putting their daughters out there for pedophiles? It sickens me!

I agree that the parents who do this are twisted and just plain weird.

It's not the fact that such events might help feed the fantasies of paedophiles that bothers me most, though. What I think is sick is how the parents are teaching their little girls that what matters most about them is their appearance, that they need to conform to some arbitrary standard of beauty, and that the opinion of others about how they look is extremely important. I also think it's twisted how mothers clearly use their children to vicariously enter the competitions; it's a little girl up on the stage, but in the mind of her mother in the audience, it's her.

Girls these days are under all sorts of pressures from every angle to grow up and become sexually active - or at least appear to be sexually available - as soon as possible. The last thing a responsible parent should be doing is putting their very young daughter in clothing and makeup that mimics that of a mature woman.

I wonder if there's been any research into the long-term effects on women whose mothers hauled them around the childhood beauty pageants circuit?

"mothers clearly use their children to vicariously enter the competitions; it's a little girl up on the stage, but in the mind of her mother in the audience, it's her."

One parenting mistake is thinking the children are there to live the parents' dreams.

Some people think that when their kid wins something or does well, it is proof that they are superior parents

So what's the solution? Don't know. But to start, Dads tell your boys to make friends with the girls who play soccer.

I haven't a fucking clue what the solution is. Maybe making everyone sterile from puberty and only giving a licence to reverse the procedure to those who demonstrate that they're psychologically healthy and will probably be good parents?

But I suppose that would be just a teensy bit dystopian.

Yep, mothers living vicariously thru their daughters is pretty sick. Lots of people live vicariously thru their dogs. Perhaps an Easter parade of dogs wearing £300 hats would soothe the void of inferiority and provide vanity fulfillment for these women.

Pretty sure the main problem is what legitimate reason would anyone other than these kids parents actually want to watch something like that. Like Ive never seen one of these things but cant imagine it having any entertainment value for the right reasons. Who really wants to watch little kids do anything?

I'd support that, I don't think it's dystopian at all. They wouldn't be trying to control your life any more than they already do. There are already laws preventing you from living how you want if it means negatively affecting other people's lives (eg. murder, rape).

    Yes.
Those mothers shouldn’t have had kids, they’re gonna destroy them....
I once saw this vid about one of those families and the daughter was kinda rebelling against it, so they preferred her younger brother and always looked down on the girl, but she was one of the brightest kids I’ve ever seen

The middle aged childless male judges should all be investigated too

I totally agree. One weird thing I find about those pageants is that the girls don't even look like kids, they're made to look like little adults. But then what's the point of that? Why not just have adult pageants?

It’s weird to you and me, but to the people involved there’s nothing sexual or strange about it. I don’t think we’re in a position to judge.

It is so so sick! Sexualization at a young age is an increasing problem, and this is just one of the signs of it...

Its disgusting how obsessive those moms are. But I'm not a fan of the nanny state. Id rather government stay the fuck out of the business.

    I was one, years ago.
    My mom had successfully modeled.
As a part of contacts I was asked to attend.
Its about talent, and making contacts or business connections.
Do I care if some perv was watching.
    Thats just life.
I wont base my life on someone elses issue.
