I talk in internet speak...

Ok so as you might have guessed i play onine games like WoW alot. But the strange thing is that the internet language is starting to become part of my everyday speech. E.g. Someone says something funny- lawl (lol) or roflmfao. Someone trips or gets hit by something - noob got owned, etc, etc. I worry cause im not sure that its good for me to be speaking like that as it might screw up my english and cause me to have shi**y grammar and stuff (i know i have sh**ty grammar alredy, dont judge) IIN?

What, you can't just judge people like that! Everyone is different and speaks in different ways. I've been reading a book series called "Warriors" and I'm starting to use expressions/words out of the book, like when someone does something stupid I call them a mouse-brain, etc. It's perfectly normal to use chat speak, lotsa my friends do it and even I have a habit of saying "lol" and "rofl" every now and then.

These words will be in the dictionary, eventually. Have you seen how much techno-babble has crept in over the past 10+ years? It's crazy! Our languages are evolving alongside technology.

Oh, and as for whether it's normal or not, I sometimes use "internet speak," but I do so sparingly, and mostly with friends. I think if you do it too much, people won't be able to take you seriously.

Improve your spelling and grammar. Don't get lazy. It is absolutely annoying and the majority of individuals cannot read it. I wish language was more regulated because of this confusion.

Yes, I like to play World of Warcraft too, but when I do... I don't use short things like "lawl" "rawflcawpter" "nubsauce" "wafflez" "kewl" "pwnd" "newb" and so on. I use clean english, so if I am going to say "lawl" I will do /laugh instead. I remember when I started, I said "LOL WTF BBQ SAUCE WAFFLEZ" the most. I stopped a bit later and returned to the regular english. Teehee.

Language is fluid. It's perhaps the only true democracy. While I don't like what's happening to the English language, it belongs to the people who speak it, not solely to me.

    Either way, relax. It's okay.

If you have a firm understanding of the English language then it's natural to evolve how you communicate.

Don't think of it as abnormal but more of a way of personalising your communication style.

    Crazy noob ;-)
