I suck a baby bottle for comfort

I had a very normal childhood. However, I have always remembered having my baby bottle ripped away from me on the night of my third birthday. I loved my "ba ba" and sucked it constantly until one day my mom yanked it from me. SHe said I was just "too old." I often fanatsized and dreamed about having a baby bottle again until one day, totally on a whim I bought one very similar to the one I had as a child. Then I was hooked again. Ever since then I have been sucking it behind closed doors in private. Usually whenever I am home alone, watching TV, and also in bed I suck on it as a I fall asleep. Over the years the bottles and nipples I remember as a child have been discontinued but I still have my own private stockpile. I am 31 years old and have no plans to stop. It makes me feel so comfortable and secure inside. Is this normal? I am afraid to tell my girlfriend...

I'm a 23yr medical student and model...I'm above average looking and am quite accomplished. My friends would describe me as sweet and caring yet fun and very quirky....And I still enjoy a bottle and pacifier. My parents tired to wean me at 4, but I kept a secret stash of my baby brother's in the top of the linen closet. Parents travel 3/4 weeks out of the month and our nanny was a drinker...her habits made for smooth escapes to the kitchen to scale the cabinets for a nightly bottle. This continued until I was 7 when my brother was weaned, but by then I was earning a weekly allowance and made my way down to the corner store where I'd buy my own. I've always kept things secret, with one exception. My best friend in middle school and her family were completely non-judgmental on my comfort activities. I still enjoy a bottle. As a matter of fact, I have two sitting on my pillow calling my name.

For me, the bottle is like what cigarettes, alcohol, heroine, or sex is for some people...when I'm suckling on the bottle I'm taken to a place where nothing exists, not the world, no people, no extraneous thought, not even myself, just a warm safe comfortable feeling. The moment that bottle enters my mouth, my glare softens, my muscles relax, my mind releases it's grip on all worry, and the world melts away. Feels like God's pulling a warm blanket over me and kissing me goodnight. I hope THATs what heaven feels like.

You're not weird. People find comfort in worse places....and we are human and need comfort to survive...I can think of an infinite number of worse habits to have. Nor can I think of any better. Not hurting anyone nor myself, and it makes me happy...very happy. Seems like a damn good benefit to cost ratio to me.

I really don't see a problem, lots of adults still have there Teddys' a few still suck there thumbs. If it makes you feel good, then goo ahead It may be a good idea to keep it private, there are a lot of small minded people out there that will not tolerate anything that is outsde their 'normal window'
I have read somewhere that age regression is very relaxing. You may find your girlfriend understanding, but whatever, she needs to know, especially if your relationship is long term.

I completely understand. I find comfort in the same exact thing. I'm 21 years old and I've been in and out of "ba ba" phases since I was a child. About a year ago I started back up again. I've always kept a baby bottle in my cabinet for those times when I need to lay on the couch and forget what's going on around me. My close friends, family, and boyfriend know about it. It's been a joke in my family since I was little and I've even had a few of my friends try way back. They all agree it's a bit weird, but they didn't judge. And my boyfriend did bring up Freud, but he laughed it off and even tried it! But anyway, I'm glad to hear I'm not alone in this :)

This is completely normal by my standerds. I mean come on, it makes you feel good doesn't it? Well, it seems like it does, so yeah, why be afraid to tell your GF? If she can't except what makes you comfort then there is somthing wrong there. I mean, I can't lie and tell you its completely normal by all peoples standerds and most would not condone it, but all at once I return to the fact of this matter. YOu like it and want it, so who cares what others think. Everyone has their special little thing that they are afraid to show everyone.

    It's perfectly normal and okay.

People who are worth your time will never judge you.

These people who say its not normal say its not normal because they see it as childish right? but they are perfectly fine with alcohol and smoking, because although they are incredibly damaging and kill people they are seen as "adult", so it makes it all okay and "normal"?

i dont think its wrong at all to suck a bottle i mean why? because the world says its wrong?

    • moonlilluv

why because the world says that it,s unacceptable behaviour? or that only a baby can do it, what if you woke up tomorrow morning and was told that the world was doing away with all toilets and that everyone had to wear Diaper's what would you do then refuse to wear Diaper's?

Sigmund Freud (who carried the title of the father of psychoanalysis) pointed out tha the most cpmftroble peaceful and pleasent time in a peron's life is the moment that (s)he is getting breastfed but his/her mother
this is the reason why people come to smoking cgarettes and having such an enermously strong psychological addiction to it
it subconiously reminds those people of the time they used to get breastfed and somehow returns them to that moment
from the very moment that they start sucking on the cigarette

Is it normal that a 31 years old man uses a baby bottle?
well if you ask me - that's after all just a replacement for tobacco addiction so it's much healthier then smoking cigarettes all day long non-stop
but if I was you I would keep it to myself due to social taboo
I advice to only admit it to the closest people to you
might result with humiliating outcomes if comeplretly everybody you know will find this out

    No harm, no foul.

If the thought of getting caught starts to seem daunting, however, don't feel bad about slowly weening yourself off. Or you could find another comforting habit. :)

This is the result of mothers with 3 year olds who still drink from a bottle and instead of weining (sp?) them off gradually, getting it YANKED from them. This is parenting today. Yes indeed.

as long as it doesn't affect your life I'd say it was ok. I went through a similar situation except the bottle was cocaine, needless to say no more "ba ba" for me :)

  • MapleSyrup

I believe it was because your mother didn't take your "ba ba" away nearly soon enough, you became attached to it and still have memories of it as you said. You should have been drinking from a cup by that age. I have no recollection at all of baby bottles.

Just as religion is taught to children so are these specific views on abortion. It's a shame that Americans in particular seem to have this obsession with unborn basterd children. Here is a tip:

Children are NOT miracles. Some cunt let a man spooge in her twat. That's not a miracle. Just about every species on the planet does it to reproduce. There are already billions of people on the earth. BILLONS. Some homeless, some depressed, diseased and dying. Yet because of great Jesus and the Lawd, Americans seem to obsess over unborn, unthinking bundles of cells. Did you EVER stop and think about the billions of people ALREADY LIVING? They're been pushed out of some lady's cunt and they need a lot more help than unborn bloody fetuses.

On top of that, if someone is considering aborting their carpet lice then it probably means they don't have the means or mental capacity to DEAL WITH A CHILD! So another delinquent will grow up and create crime on YOUR streets and fill up YOUR classrooms, and then you wonder how in the world these things keep happening.

I can GUARANTEE those of you who think that "killing babys" is WRONG have little to no idea wtf they're talking about, and have gotten their views from the asshole of some preacher, television or godly parent.

It's clearly NOT Normal, if it was then you wouldn't have to ask the question. It's also not harming anyone else. Your girlfriend is going to find out about it eventually if you decide to cohabitate ... What you have to ask yourself if what you think she'll make of it, and is the risk of her thinking your a looney and leaving is worth the comfort the bottle gives you. If I were in the same situation I'd feel like it was a little odd and try to curb the habit (sounds like you think it's odd too).

It is interesting that you feel asking the question actually justifies the activity as not normal.

Normal is not a function of being something that MOST people would do. It is also not a function of being something that people do, or want to do, in the presence of others. Two examples that support this. A small percentage of children wet the bed, yet in most cases this is a normal part of growing up. Not everyone develops at the same rate. Second, lots of things are normal (like sex, defecation, etc) but these things are not usually done in public or even around other people. They are performed behind closed doors.

This is one of those activities that is not openly practiced by a lot of people, this does not make it not normal. We may never know if it is common because of the stigma attached to acting childish. Yet it is clear this is something that some people do.

I personally own a pacifier, and have used a bottle, although these are not items that I use even on a monthly basis. I have a niece who also uses a bottle every night before bed, she is about 23. And I have run into lots of people that I suspect use one or the other. When they are open about it (like my niece is in her immediate family) I treat it like it is sweet, and when someone is trying to hide it I respect there privacy.

Bottom like is that this is one of those activities that is not wrong on any level. It might be a little embarrassing, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Personally I would never suck a pacifier or bottle in public, but there are many who will.

I really feel this is probably more common than any of us would imagine. I have seen plenty of evidence to support this.

In this case it is obvious that weaning took place too late, and in a traumatic fashion. I suspect this is a leading contributor to the use of nipples later in life. My own son asked me to get a pacifier for him when he was about 7, I would not do it because it was so hard to wean him in the first place. He was not weaned until after that point he could clearly remember them, so this is likely to be an issue for him.

As for having a girlfriend, I strongly suggest not hiding this from her unless you really feel you can, and are willing to, stop. She needs to know if you plan to take the relationship to the next level.

Chances are you DIDN'T have a normal childhood. Every adult that had a f*cked up childhood thinks it was normal and every adult that claims to have had a f*cked up childhood either spent time in therapy coming to terms with it or is just a whiner.
I thought it was normal for parents to beat the shit out of each other until i was in my late teens! So did my brother! But hey we dealt with it. You've probably got some burried stuff to deal with. Hopefully you're right though, and you're just weird instead lol.

I was allowed to keep my baby bottle until I was eight. I gradually grew tired of it and felt too grown up. I imagine the same will happen to you eventually. Could you try using one of those sports cap bottles instead? Fill it with milk or whatever you normally put in your bottles. Something nice and comforting to suck on that wouldn't be embarrassing if someone found out.
    Best wishes x

Everyone has their vices to get through the everyday stresses of life. I often twirl my hair to calm myslef down when watiching tv or falling asleep. I would say this was normal, but a 31 year old sucking on a baby bottle is a little weird. You have to find a healthier way to calm yourself down and relax yourself.

i think you never grew up and something in your past is trying to resurface through your subconscious. ill tell you you dont need the bottle and you should reevaluate your childhood i doubt the bottle is all that was taken away!
