I still sleep with my childhood pillow.

For some reason I cant let go of it,

I'm 19, going on 20 and I still sleep with my baby pillow. I'm absolutely terrified of losing it. It's seriously a rag now, it's an ugly thing but I love it dearly. It smells so nice, kind of like vanilla. If I lost it for good I would seriously cry for weeks. I still have nightmares about misplaceing it.

Is this normal?

Hello everybody im here to tell you a story and also ask for help.I think i got my pillow at the age of 5 i think.I had it for 9 years it had holes it was practically a rag.So i am a rower i went to preparations and i couldnt bring my pillow cause the other kids would probably laugh at me so i left it at home. When i came back it was gone , it was ok for one night and tomorow i asked my mom where is it she said that SHE THREW IT!It was my biggest nightmare and it happened i broke down crying i cant control it.My mom gave me a same one but never used bought from the same store 9 years ago I am currently depressed and crying all the time its so hard without it i cant stop thinking about it.Please help when i was a kid i used to talk to it but now i hope its soul got into my new one but i dont feel like it , i am trying to learn to love the new one , and reffer to it same as the old one it would be nice to talk to some of you who also have a pillow from childhood. And this is a lesson everybody NEVER LOSE IT i know what it feels like

its totally normal ! I have this pillow since i was a baby and until now , i still need to hug it to sleep and i even bring it to every single country i go to ( i hug it even on the airplane ) . and i almost cried when my mom lied to me saying that the pillow was left in the hotel . so its perfectly normal !!

Perfectly normal, even if the pillow is ratty and falling apart. Sometimes, it's just a security thing to know you have it, even in the closet or drawer. I'd like to find my old childhood teddy bear..Brown, fairly plain but I loved it, just to have in my house. Not necessarily sleep with it, just know I have it.

This makes me sad:( .I used to have a childhood blanket and pillow too but my mom got rid of them.(The blanket first when i was like 6 and the pillow at 8,still tryna get rid of childhood toy). If you still have it DEFEND it with honor(for all the fallen toys that never made it).
    :'(

I think our society really shouldn't be so quick to suggest it's best for kids to stop relying on a comfort item. I mean, yes once your past little kid years, it is a bit much to be carrying around a comfort item.

I think it would help many people if their parents said, that the child could keep it but as they get older have it only as a bedroom or bedtime sort of thing. Who knows, perhaps not encouraging a child to get rid of their comfort item, might prevent mental issues in the future.

I still sleep with stuffed animals, I find the giant stuffed animals meant for baby's cribs or playrooms are really comfy, and you can feel them holding you, where smaller stuffed toys not so much. Also there's this company called BeePosh, that sells stuffed animals with really unique fabric on them.

I also want to mention, if having a comfort item is so strange, why is Build-A-Bear so popular then?

Completely normal! At least I think so. Maybe it's because I'm the same way. :D Eighteen, moved out, and still have my childhood pillow that passes for a rag. My mom wants to take it and wash it/put a new cover on it but I'll never let her.

Well, i'm glad i'm not the only one.

Mine went through the wash a few years ago on accident and I thought it was gonna destroy it, lol. I feel lame that I still sleep with it. Whenever I have a girl stay the night I hide it in my closet. Only a few people know that I still sleep with it because i'm so embarressed about it.

Thanks, I feel somewhat normal now=D
