I sleep enough but i can't stop falling asleep?

I'm in high school and sleep a reasonable (although not scientifically safe) amount, usually 4-5 hours a night on school nights, plus 2-3 hour naps after school, and I can't stop falling asleep in class. I could hold my eyes open with my fingers and I'd still fall asleep in every class against my will. I hear a lot of other students who get less sleep than me and never fall asleep in class. I don't mind always being tired it's just annoying falling asleep because I get in trouble and miss information etc. Does anyone else have this problem? Is this normal?

    5 hours seems like a fair compromise. With that much sleep you will still be "tired" but not falling asleep in class kind of tired. I regularly used to go to bed at 1 and maybe fall asleep at 1:30 when I had to wake up around 6:30 the next morning

    When I was a teen I couldn't fall asleep at all for several nights. Probably stress induced insomnia. For those few days I managed to stay awake. It wasn't very enjoyable at all.

    I think you should sleep more. Maybe about 8 hours at night. If I were you I would fall asleep too with 4-5 hours sleeping.

      I think my Mom should sleep more. She's tired from supporting me working at Burger king. Maybe 8 hours at night. If I was a Natasha would fall asleep too, because im so fat. with 4-5 hours sleeping with my fat Mother and Father.

  • You are obviously not getting enough rest if you are constantly tired during the day. Try to go to bed earlier. If staying asleep is your problem then try taking a bit of valarian root, melatonin or kava kava tea before bed.

    Do you think you are tired for other reasons, like boredom or depression?

    You might not be getting you the type of stimulation you need to stay interested in your classes, but what do you think it is?
