I "see" visual diagrams for number patterns.

I see number patterns as specific visual diagrams in my head. Whenever I think of the months of the year, for example, I see each month 3-dimensionally in a circle around my head. July is on my right, January is on my left, April and May are above me, and September, October, November, and December are below me.

I also have different visual diagrams that I see for the hours in a day, years on a timeline, and especially, the days of the week. Each diagram is different and very vivid in my mind's eye. I also can compartamentalize dates into my visual diagrams. For instance, if I want to remember a dentist appointment a month from today, I need only mentally visualize putting it into my diagram. Then, I am guaranteed that I will remember it. It is the same way for dates and years in the past.

When I tell people about what I see when I think of these numbers, I get strange looks. For most of my life, I thought everyone saw these things. It is only until recently that I discovered that I see things a lot differently. Does anyone else have a similar condition?

It's called Number Form Synesthesia. I have it too. For example, any number I can conjure can be located on a helicoidal staircase that extends up to the infinite, and i can move along it and change the scale of it by coiling it more or relaxing it.

This is called synesthesia. Look it up! Actually a lot of people have this. It's great for creativity and memory. Quite normal.

do you have a freakishly large head?

    :P

its unusual, although its an effective memory tool, and creative might i add. your brain must be constantly active. you would be good at recognizing patterns and cracking codes, puzzles. its a gift, really.

i once tried to memorize numbers by making a "story" out of them, and just a few: (1= represents a wa11, both in writing and visually, 8= spaguetti, visually, 7=candycane, visually.)

so for example if i were to see a 187, the story would go like this "I was sitting next to the wall eating spaguetti, then i had a candycane"...etc

    stuff like this works
