I saw this quote today.

I read the following quote on the internet. (Sorry, I don't know who it came from.) I enjoyed it and I thought it was appropriate for this site. What do you guys think?

"No man is so foolish but he may sometimes give another good counsel, and no man so wise that he may not easily err if he takes no other counsel than his own. He that is taught only by himself has a fool for a master."

I like it! 21

My Father told me plenty of times while I was growing up that wise and intelligent people listen to the words and advice of other wise and intelligent people while people who are unwise and not so intelligent don't listen.

He told me that fools don't want to listen to anything that they don't agree with and they have no respect for that which they don't understand. The more of life that I experience, the more that I realize that some of the most foolish people that I know are also some of the worst listeners.

I might be wrong on this but I always thought it was Ben Jonson and Thompson was just quoting him. He was around at the same time as Shakespeare and was an amazing character. In his modesty, he asked for only a tiny bit of Westminster Abbey to be buried in. A couple of square feet. So in compliance with his wishes, they buried him standing up, and not using up much space.

I think he killed someone in a duel too. He'd be more well-known were it not for Shakespeare himself.

Oh, and I'll be honest, I haven't read any Ben Jonson so I don't know where the quote is from or even if it's truly his. I've seen it attributed to him lots of times, though. And yes, it makes a lot of sense. Especially in the context of IIN. Everyone here has something to contribute.

Uh-oh. I very well could be wrong. I heard that quote a long time ago and always thought it was Thompson. Perhaps i should look into this but I would take your word over mine any day, on any topic.

Ahh, I wouldn't go with me on this one. I'm a bad Englishman who should have read Jonson but I really haven't (and don't intend to). I couldn't even tell you what play or poem the quote is from so the chances are you're right.

Yes, that would make a good quote for this site I think. I think TheManagement likes the current one though :)
