I run from things that make me feel?

I never used to, but recently I've been avoiding things that make me feel, skipping songs that evoke emotions like longing and reminisce and sadness. My family and I were recently in a hotel room watching the Fault In Our Stars. I love TFIOS, but I changed the channel right at the part where Hazel started talking to Gus. What's happening to me

I think it's normal in that a lot of people do this. Emotions can be very uncomfortable and strange. It is easy to repress your emotions and want to stay away from anything that will make you experience these uncomfortable feelings.

Maybe it just means that you are not ready in your life yet to deal with something so painful and uncomfortable. It might also have something to do with a fear of being unable to stop or control your feelings, so you avoid them all together. For example, someone could be scared of crying because they feel like once they start, they might not be able to stop and it will feel scary and like falling into a bottomless pit. So the best way this person can cope with that, is to avoid anything that may potentially trigger a need to cry. It might even be to the point of doing something irrational that no one else thinks is normal - just for the purpose of not wanting to feel sad or to cry. But this is itself, still a normal reaction to intense emotions.

    Hope I made sense.
