I really hate christmas

I no longer find any joy in this holiday.
It seems that it no longer means anything but greed, commercialism and what yuppies can outdo each other with their $30 token Christmas gifts. Ive had it with all this crap.
If you are Christian, what about the birth of Christ which seems kind of lost?
If your not, why even celebrate it?
Maybe Ive seen the worst of people lately but I am to the point where I don't want anything to do with it, no gifts no getting together with people I don't even like, nothing.
Please tell me Im not the only one...?

I'm not doing it again. I can't stand the waste and having to be nice to people I don't like and the crappy presents and most of all the bullshit.

Yesterday 10 or 11 people ate enough food to feed a third world village for at least a week and exchanged lots of items people either didn't need or didn't want.

Next year I'm doing a Solstice Celebration and my immediate family can come or not come as they please and do the same about presents.

On xmas day I'm volunteering at the local community xmas meal for people with nowhere else to go.

I don't like it either. A massive weight in everything was lifted off my shoulder the day I stopped celebrating it.

But then it feels dreary in a way. Can't win I guess.

It's just me and my sister and parents and sometimes extended relatives and it got to be where we didn't know what to get each other and mostly gave money gifts which felt pointless - give money and get about the same amount back. So we quit. Christmas is more for kids I think but there aren't any in my family.

          • That's exactly how I feel!
Better to make peoples birthdays special, I think.

I'll admit, I was watching some Christmas related stuff on tv and despite finding the whole thing rather bizarre, I actually found myself a sad that I wasn't going to get any presents.

When I used to celebrate it, I would feel absolutely miserable around the Christmas Holiday and preparing for the New Year.

I persoally don't care for the holiday myself. I really dislike my family and its a time for said family to get together. All they do is fight and scream at each other and wreak havoc... It sucks. This whole time of year sucks and I cannot wait for it to be over with

I enjoyed it when I was little of course but now...ugh. My husband and I used it as an excuse to splurge on buying things for our house that we'd been putting off but that's it. The only good thing was that Walmart had all their registers open yesterday...fastest I've ever gotten in and out of walmart...after maneuvering around in the aisles...but that's another story. Why the hell do people put their cart on one side then look at something on the other side taking up the whole damn aisle? Rant Over.

A lot of the traditions associated with Christmas, such as gift giving, mistletoe and Yule log, are older than Christianity. So, non-Christians definitely can celebrate it as well.

But yes, commercialism and keeping up with the Joneses is quite annoying around Christmas. So, I can understand being put off by that.
