I put on weight

I am a bit overweight for my height-70kg/11 stone/154 pounds and 5'5"/165 cm. Female and 37.

I am worried because I have put all this weight on over the last 3 years. The main problem with this is that I am often too embarassed to meet some friends that I haven't seen for a few years. There are some friends that I want to meet to catch up with but I can't face it. They will look at me and think-'wow she has put on weight'. When I last saw them, I was about 62kg. A lot of the weight has gone to my face/upper body and I hate it.
I have made plans to see some of these friends but have cancelled at the last minute due to worry about embarassmant.I know that my friends will like me no less for this but how do I cope with it? I suppose the answer is to lose weight before I see them but this takes so much time and I like my food!
Any suggestions about how to cope with this embarassment??

5'5" and 154 lbs. isn't big at all. In fact, I can't wait for the day when I get down to that weight! :)

If your friends judge you for it, then they are shallow and not worth your time.

Sorry for being so hard, I just can't stand being wiser than someone 15 years older than me

You sound like you were morbidly obesse, YOU'RE OK. I'm younger, shorter and heavier, and I'm ok. It's been 3 years! If you want to get healthier then go for it, get healthier, but don't obsess over your weight
And most importantly, avoid friends because you feel bad the way you look is STUPID, they're your friends, they like you for WHO you are, not the way you look! In fact they might not even notice!
Don't let your life stop, for something so trivial.

That is not a ridiculous amount of weight to put on. Start exercising some. That will make you feel better about yourself. Also, when your friends ask how you are, and what you've been doing, you can tell them about your exercise! That way IF they even think about your weight, they will know you're working on it. I'm sure you look fine though. I'm also sure that they have something they are self-conscious about!
