I pretend to like the blade runner movie

Yeah, it's what it sounds like.

Everyone talks about how visionary and amazing it is (the Director's Cut).

I don't buy it, but I pretend to in front of my friends.

Just what's the fucking big deal, it's so indistinct.

I feel the same about the star wars film, everyone goes on about them and while they're not bad films I just don't really like them, maybe it's a generational thing, maybe if I was around at the time I would feel differently as I know the visuals were breathtaking and I know it's a technical landmark in cinema and respect it for that but I don't get enjoyment from watching them.

I hate gravity too. It looks amazing, the sound design, cinematography, visuals and set pieces were amazing but it was full of forced sentimentality and without fail every line that came out of every characters mouth ( especially clooney's) made me want to get up and leave. So overrated.

that's the beauty of cinema, so subjective. Everybody takes something different out of it.
Personally I like Star Wars and Gravity. But I don't like Breaking Bad.

Your right, there's no definitive good or bad film ( well, maybe troll 2, I loveit, but for the wrong reasons) for every person who has one opinion on a film or tv series there will be someone else with another, it'd be boring if everyone liked the same things.

People say this about Clockwork Orange. I wasn't fond of the film.

People say claim that Naked Lunch is a masterpiece. It is a revolting mash of shit. What a pathetic excuse for literature!

You could take a tire and stick it in an art museum. You could claim that it is "art". Critics will believe that it is art and will scramble around, trying to interpret the true inner meaning of your "art". This tire doesn't represent a struggling society. All it shows is that the art world is pretentious.

There is nothing that you can gain from claiming to like something that you don't like. You shouldn't be afraid to be open about your opinions. If these people are going to hate you for your views on this then, these people aren't worth your time.

    • I actually did not like Naked Lunch either. We should "do it."

I've... seen things you people wouldn't believe...Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those... moments... will be lost in time, like..tears... in... rain. Time... to die...

  • The book is better than the movie.

I think so too. Actually, I think it's an excellent book.

I know it was a landmark film, I know it was ahead of it's time. But I wasn't too phased by it either. But I can appreciate how influential it was.

I think a lot of people do this! You really shouldn't bother; it's much more fun when somebody calls a movie a load of shit - chances are you're not the only one thinking it.

It's annoying when you can tell people are only claiming to like a movie because it's what they think will make them 'cool'!

I had to study this in school, so not the biggest fan.

Btw, Is the close-up of the 'snake-scale' under the microscope really a marijuana bud? ..anybody?

It's by no means a perfect film. But it did cater to my preferred taste and style in a movie. I think they did the cyber-punk noire setting beautifully. And while it was pretty slow and boring mid film, featuring tolerable, if not acceptable acting talents, I think it still managed to achieve it's goal in the end very elegantly.

    • Blade Runner Director's Cut is a classic sci-fi movie with equal parts of noire stylings. It's lauded as a movie of visual awesomeness. I thought it was slow and uninteresting in many ways. Yeah, there were good moments in it (e.g. The opening panorama of LA), but it's not enough for me to be rated some kind of trancedental masterpiece.
