I pick at spots inside my hair =o

I keep doing this. I will sit somewhere, and run my fingers through my hair, and if I feel a spot or a scab, I will pick at it. But now i seem to be picking at my own hair roots! So now, if I've picked out a spot type thing, it will actually be the root of my hair... with the strand of hair attached to it! Everytime I do it my mum pushes at my hand and tells me to stop... I've tried... but I can't, I don't even realise I'm doing it half the time, I only realise when I'm with people, and I've got a piece of hair between my fingers...
My hair naturally falls out, and I'm just making it worse!
eek! what should I do?

The only way to cure this is to cut off both your hands.

I do the same thing. I have exzema in my hair so sometimes I get a scab from the flat irons or my scalp being too dry, but that's not unusual. I think it's the fact that ur too concerned with ur hair. That's especially true in my case I worry about it breaking off, growing faster, or I get frustrated because it's not done or it dirty and oily. Just try a minimize the amount of hand contact with your hair and if your pulling out follicles try seeing a beautician because in some cases while that is normal it can also mean ur hair is indeed falling out too fast. Decrease stress as well u don't wanna wake up with a bald patch. O yea try manonise conditionings and hot oil treatments to make that scalp a little healtier to reduce scabs. I hope this helps.

I pick the eyelashes out of the outer corners of the bottom lids of the eyes. And now I have missing eyelashes and it looks strange T_T

I have actually been diagnosed with trichotillomania, a convulsive hair-pulling disorder. I used to pick once like this. It first started with my eyebrows, then it moved to my eye lashes and eventually my hair. This started when I was 14 or so, and I am now 22. People that have this type of ocd never completely conquer it. It sucks knowing this, but also knowing that 1 in every 3rd American has it is reassuring that I'm not completely alonr and weirded out by the disorder. Don't seek professional help unless you yourself are ready to stop and make a change. I have been there. Good luck... I hope you find a solution .

You need to try Amino Acid Therapy it actually creates more serotonin in your body. It works! I am 39 and have worn a full wig since age 17. I started taking Neuro Replete and CysReplete about 3 months ago. I am at level two and it has completely worked. We have a serotonin deficiency which can be checked with a urine test. Try a serch on serotonin deficiency and then call Natural Path Health Center at 608-274-7044 they can help explain.

:( Oh it's so crappy. I don't normally do this, but ever since getting chicken pox (not long ago; still recovering), every night, my scalp seems to become unbearably itchy and I'll start picking at all the scabs there. It's awful, because then it just hurts.

As others have said, it sounds like you may have OCD, so you an try the treatments which are available.

I've got the same exact problem, and it's really taking a toll on my scalp. What's been working to help me is to find a replacement... try carrying something in your pocket like a defunct piece of electronics that you can pick apart piece by piece, or pasta you can crush. Something to keep your hands busy besides picking at your head. In the meantime, find a good healing shampoo, because you'll be less tempted to pick if you have no scars or itches.

I've done little OCD things like that all my life. My earliest memories as a kid include picking my nails, nose, etc. Avoid doing it in public at all costs. Set a challenge for yourself. Stop all of it - completely. Don't ever do it anywhere, no matter how much you want to.

I do something similar to this and have to focus to just not do it. I do believe this is OCD related and a dr. could offer some help, but it's all about you and how badly you want to be in control of your actions. It does sound related to trichotillomania which can cause severe damage to your scalp and your mental well being. I bet you feel ashamed after you do it, or embarrassed if you think people see you. I hide my hair twirling and do not do it in public. Most of all, I know I want to be in Control of my actions so I can just stop the action. It's like biting your nails, once you realize you're doing it, just stop! Mind over matter...

Does anyone watch the new show Obsessed on A&E?

I used to do it too. I took years for me to stop and for the little scar spots on my head to regrow my signature blonde hair. Get a rubber band to pop your wrist with every time you feel the urge to pick. AND....it sounds icky, but neosporin on healing scabs works wonders.

Please don't pick for as long as I did-I hope you find a way to stop! :]

My best friend used to do this with her eyebrow. She had to apply vaseline to it to remind her that she was doing it. In about a month of wet eyebrows, she stopped. As vaseline would probably not be the best thing for hair, I would reccomend hair gel or a hat for about a month or more.

I do it too but because I like to chew on them. I think it is gross but I cant break the habit. I use to bite my nails and other things. I think its partly a habit and partly a strong addiction.

try to be conscience of when you're doing it...the more you notice you're doing it, the easier it'll be to stop yourself.

Maybe a manifestation of trichotillomania, a form of OCD. Treatment is available if you decide you need it.

you just have to find a way of getting out of the habit, you are probably not realising your doing it.
