I only like one band

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate all other music, but I only really like one band. I've even tried websites like Pandora, Musicovery, and last.fm in an attempt to broaden my musical horizons, but I can't seem to find anything that suits me. Is this normal?

if that band breaks up look for when the other members start a new one. it's just so much easier that way.

Sounds like you're more into the band than music.

you like what you like. if one band is what you like, fine.

next year it will probably be someone else anyway.

Beatles are classic stuff. SOAD ain't heavy enough, and stop insulting the classics. Seriously we can't help you there of you don't tell us what band it is. Here's a few of mine:

    Alt rock:
    Muse
    Cage The Elephant
    Paper Tongues

    Metal:
    Pantera
    Galneryus
    Violent Soho
    Iron Attack
    Disturbed

    Classic rock:
    Guns N Roses
    Motorhead
    Chickenfoot
    Jimi Hendrix

There, now go and headbang like heck.

Violent Soho are alternative, not metal! Think Pixies...not Pantera.

I have the same problem, I only really listened to SOAD, but eventually I heard every song to death and now I only really listen to TOOL, I guess some people just listen to music differently!

WOOT! SOAD!!! they are sick! I can listen to anything really, except country. Even classical piano/violin. Im guessing your younger, I was the same way up to 15, then everything sounds good. Listen to only what you like, but also just on random go to itunes and preview music, thats how i got out of it, but it is perfectly normal.

for years i was obsessed with nirvana, but i don't think it was so much the music but rather a vent for teenage angst, maybe you are also using this band to vent frustration, if this is the case, i would recommend listening to universal music like simon and Garfunkel, and other 6o's groups, or maybe even classical, such as Chopin. Chopin is great for releasing feelings of depression or emptyness.

Dude parallel universes. I was ALL Nirvana back in the day. Now days I'm all classical music, and some of the bands I liked in the 90's. New music bites a big hairy one.

It's normal. I guess that depends on which band though ;)

You should check who the band you like's musical influences were/ are (most bands say it in interviews it shouldn't be too hard to find out), if they inspired the band you like, there's a good chance you'll enjoy them :)

You are smart to try to find something new to like. Pretty soon, you are going to get so SICK of listening to the same small set of similar songs over and over and over again.

I'm having the same trouble as you: even though I like a few hundred songs from a few hundred artists, I still get more than enough of them on a long road trip.

But it's getting hard. The newest song on my Ipod is 1999, and it's tough to find something fresh that I like (That stuff from the '60s and '70s is REALLY getting hair on it).

I don't want to end up like my dad who let himself get stuck in the big band era. He didn't hear a new tune that he liked for the last 50 years of his life.

I've been trying to leave the radio on some top 40 station while I sleep so maybe I'll get something by osmosis. So far -- no help.

    • its nice to see an old person that will actually listen to something that was made in the last 50 years. i dont get how every single old person is stuck in like 1950 or something. i know i'll never get like that. when i'm 80 i'll probably not even like music that was made in the 2000s i always like new music

I disagree with you there, you see while we're young we accept new styles of say, fashion and music but when we hit about 40, well listen to the stuff we used to like because we feel were getting older and want to feel young again, completely oblivious to others thinking were older than ever.
