I might get a house-boat.

So this isn't an is it normal type post. I just need advice on this or peoples personal experiences.

I might get a house-boat soon, but I want to know what others think about it. What are the normal fees besides slip rental and if there are any people on here that has a houseboat or has lived on one, I'd like to know how they liked it.

I don't have any practical advice, but I just wanted to say....that's really cool!

I have lived aboard various types of boats since 1969 and I think it's really cool living aboard a boat. As a matter of fact, I'm typing this from my boat right now, which is anchored in Tyrrel Bay, on the island of Carriacou. Tomorrow, we sail off to another island, which is also pretty cool. Moving, but never packing a box or bag.

Your life sounds so amazing, almost like fiction. Why do you choose to waste your time here?

        Good question!

No TV and the internet is too slow to stream movies. Not much else to do at night aboard a boat, anchored out in a bay on a tiny island.
So this is entertaining, and maybe, just maybe, I can help someone, like the dude who asked about living on a boat.

my grandparents have one i've stayed on it and drove it a few times but that's all so i don't know about upkeep, but it is so comfortable and relaxing to sleep in, as long as you dont have claustrophobia or anything like that

I've partied with the guy that I'm going to get it from, so I've slept aboard it before. It was very relaxing.

I work with a guy who lives up near LA who has one. All he's mentioned is that upkeep is a bitch but aside from that, he loves it and likens it to living on a yacht. Think his is smaller than the average tho.

The one I might be getting has a living room, a galley, and a decent sized bedroom. Its in pretty good shape too. So I'm actually excited about it.

If you are intending to get insurance or are spending any money on this house boat, be sure to hire a marine surveyor to check it out for you. It's always nice to know if your home will still be afloat, when you return from work. It won't be cheap, but it could save you much in the end.

Thank you for the advise. I will definitely look into that.

I might get a boat-house, which is more like a floating robotic island with a house and a couple of well-trimmed bushes.

Ah ha! Now we know. You do like well trimmed bush. Another layer peeled back.

You'll get to know me very gradually. Then maybe we can be buddies....

Gradual is not one of the words in my vocabulary, at this age. Time flies and age creeps, but as they say, "Old hippies never die, they just smell that way."

I live in San Diego so I doubt it's going to ever end up like that, lol.

Especially if your daughter isn't a little flirt like Juliette Lewis.
