I'm tired of people talking about their peoples' suffering.

I'm sick of people talking about the suffering of their people. As a Jew, I hear a lot about the Holocaust. But the fact is, I've never been in a concentration camp. I therefore can't say that I understand the "suffering of my people."

I don't know of any African-Americans who have been slaves. As a matter of fact, I don't know any minority personally who has been a slave. I'm tired of my classmates (of minority races) talking about how they can "feel the pain of their people." Quite frankly, they're exploiting their ancestors. They don't know what it's like to be a slave, and they shouldn't claim that they do. IIN?

I'd say it's normal to be aggravated. Some people just like to play off their ancestors for the sympathy factor, even though they probably will never understand such misery.

People who exploit their ancestor's/relative's sufferings are weak individuals. They use it as an excuse for a leveraging agent for an argument.

Total bullshit and I agree with you.

Yes, I can see why that would annoy you. If people are using it for attention, at any rate.

I kind of do partially understand the suffering because it's something I've read a lot about (it intersects with something else that I'm particularly interested in). Even though I wasn't there, it's impossible not to realise at least some of what happened. Likewise, I know a handful of people who have visited Auschwitz-Birkenau and reacted in ways they hadn't expected. They went out of historical interest (and to pay respects) and were reduced either to numbness or overwhelming distress. I don't find that annoying either. If they were trading on it, though, I would find it annoying.

    Well that all depends.
Are we talking about a person that is fairly well educated on the topic of the suffering and atrocities committed towards their race and if so are they talking about it in such a manner to add content to the conversation and intellectually stimulate you?

Are the two of you having this conversation out of a general want to seek knowledge from one another?

Or is this person taking the freedom that their race, ethnicity etc. fought for and one to wear their pants around their ankles, drop out of high school and bitch about how the world owes them because their race was oppressed? Is this person using this as a card for sympathy, guilt etc.?

Only you can be the judge of either factor. On one hand, having an intellectual conversation with someone about this wouldn't be half bad. On the other hand having to sit and listen to some prick who obviously never cracked open a history book and is as full of hate as his ancestors oppressors bitch about it would be rather unpleasant. Way to go, you are taking your freedom and corkscrewing it up your ass because you think looking cool is more beneficial than success.

    Normal.

There is a suffering minority. Autistics. These people are as close to perfect as you can get. You should worship them.

People use those examples to discount personal sufferings that someone else might be going through. It's a a roundabout way of saying "I don't care about you."

I totally know how you feel. It's like they want bragging rights for something they never came in contact with. However, I do understand that they may just bepreciating their ancestors for all that they've done for them, and they have a right to do that.

Some people feel. They admire, they envy, and they feel. Why is it so wrong to pass words on from generations ago? From people who saved and ment alot to their race? They are people that are happy to be freely walking this earth right now. There shouldn't be any problem about them representing their heritage... culture, role models, ect. If we all stopped talking about where we came from. History would be lost. Appreciate, and have a better and more open mind.

I know this black centenarian; born in 1910. She deserves to bitch about the civil rights era.

    • If she was actually there, then yes, she does deserve to bitch about it. Hell, I'd pay money to hear her bitch about it. I'm talking about kids born decades after the actual events.
