I'm tired of hearing about free healthcare?

Whenever I say that I like living in America, all the Canadians around me start shouting about how I don't have free healthcare. They almost come across as being insecure. I say something good about the US, they start bragging about their latest trip to the doctor. It's starting to get on my nerves. IIN?

No such thing as free healthcare. We have the NHS here and, although I wouldn't pay an "extra" penny for treatment if I broke my leg, I do pay ~$400 every month for that "free" treatment (and everyone else's "free" treatment).

I could be selfish and argue that my contribution should be lower because I so rarely use the NHS (if ever) so personal health insurance would suit me, but I do support a system of healthcare for all. It's most certainly not free, though.

Someone who understands economics! Thank-you for saying this. A lot of people who talk about free healthcare don't really understand how it works. Good to see not everyone is that blind.

I honestly think that are a million more interesting things to be bragging about in Canada! And the healthcare argument became a joke already. I think it's normal it pisses you off.

But, hey.. the healthcare is awesome. I wish you guys will finally pass the healthcare bill soon.

I had a medical bill for over $20,000, so I had to sign up for their charity and they wrote it all off. (Phew) I currently still have to pay over $3,000. My doctor prescribed me a medication a few days ago that cost me $90. I just paid $150 for one visit to see my doctor for a 1 minute check up. I've been trying to find insurance but the place I just called told me my household income was too large and she hung up on me. I make $400 a month if I'm lucky b/c the job I have will only give me 15 hours max and some weeks I only get scheduled 4 hours. I've been trying to find another job but no luck. I still have to get two more separate surgeries, meaning two separate hospital bills. They charged me over $2,000 for 1 visit so that's at least another $4,000 I owe. Oh, not to mention the anesthesiologists bill which will probably be another $2,000. I'm relying on my parents which I HATE.

Free healthcare is awesome. I went to Britain and got suck. Despite not being a citizen I wasn't expected to pay. However, the one of the problems Is that the people have to pay high taxes. They're pros and cons.

The debate does get tiresome. But just because it's free, doesn't mean I want it. I just want access to all forms of healthcare, not just a few.

Are you willing to pay anything or should we be entitled?

Yes, on both accounts. I am willing to pay for healthcare, and I do. I just hate that I can't pick my own doctor. Or...and this pisses me off, I had lab work done but not all technicians in the same lab are covered. So since they decided to process my information on a tuesday instead of monday I had to pay for it. What kind of bullshit is that?

Basically, an insurance company should not dictate what is medically necessary. That is a major flaw with the system. We should be entitled to preventitive care regardless of who processes the paperwork, as long as they have the proper credentials.

I agree, every other country thinks theirs is the best, and there is nothing wrong with that, but they all get mad when americans do it, even though they have probably never been here.

LOL, latest trip to the doctor. That must be delightful. "I went on a trip to sandiego" and the response "Well guess what fucker I just went to the doctor! I can go whenever I like for as many times as a like." What a funny argument. I personally ONLY go to the doctor if I believe its serious. I use to be forced to get unnecessary, extensive, treatments that could have been easily avoided. I don't think all people need a head to toe anal, front, blood work, search every other week. I don't understand why people would want this kind of stuff all the time? Its never pleasant. All of the stuff they tested for showed up negative every single time yet they kept retesting. Sometimes they would run the same damn test 3 times within a week. After years of this bull shit it was finally determined nothing was wrong to begin with which made all the testing greatly unnecessary.

This has absolutly no affect on me becuase I am so deadset against not going to the doctor , especielly the psychological ones . I swear if I was ever in an investigation and they demanded blood work id die in prison before they took fluids from my body but I think that healthcare is stupid you poeple act like you need a doctor ? why waste your time with tiny check ups. Especielly how check ups have become so exstensive .I use to get a check up they checked my heart, mt blood pressure , my wiaeght , my hieght , my hearing , my eye and if I kicked when they hit my knee with that miny hammer thing. Ok that seems reasanable for a check up fine , now they added urine, bloodwork , boobcheck, papsmere , TESTICLE CHECK .Ok seriouesly you do not need to be that exstensive when its just a reguluar check up . Why would you want to go if everyone time you go they are gonna violate every part of your body I mean do you really want to feel raped everytime you do a annual I mean its a annual poeple . We are not getting ready for surgery .
