I don't feel like I can talk about art
or be proud of anything I do without being labelled pretentious.
or having some kind of abuse chucked at me.
when people make music
or dance
or write
they get praise.
But people who make art just get
' ooh look at you, you think you're an artist'
these people arent actually critics though, they just throw their opinion around. these are not the people you have to impress.
Do what ever floats your boat and don't worry too much about what people think.
Why on earth would you worry about what ignorant people think?
It would be a boring world if we were all the same but do what makes you happy, and leave them to try and find some happiness of their own.
People that give other people flak are the worst. Don't worry though, cause you can't impress everyone.
Prehaps so, if the art doesn't really mean anything. A lot of "artists" these days just throw some stuff together and say it's art. If you can create emotion and meaning in a painting, sculpture, etc then people probably won't call you prententious AS OFTEN, but remember, other's will be envious.

If you are genuinely proud of your artworks and someone pays you a compliment, don't feel ashamed! Try spending time with like minded people who also share your passion and that way you talk freely about art and have a fulfilling conversation without having to worry about being labelled as "pretentious". The fact that you go out of way to be modest pretty much means that you aren't pretentious!
