I'm sick of living in the south

I am sick of living in the South. I'm surrounded by ignorant people who have literally only ever been around one race, one religion, and one political party. Not all places in the South are like this, but I live in a rural area and it is particularly bad here. Anyone who has a differing opinion (basically anyone who isn't a straight WASP) gets left out of everything and is seen as a freak. I feel like an outcast in this environment. Is it normal to feel so bitter about my surroundings?

The south is more racially diverse than most places in the United States. Just move into an entirely black neighborhood if you're tired of white people.

    • I'm not tired of white people, I'm tired of THESE white people. I want to live somewhere where I feel like I fit in.

I feel your pain. I've always lived in a multicultural environment, so I can't imagine living like that =(. I wish you luck with your moving plans =)

Practice TV talking. Urban people don't like southern accents.

I also plan to move out of the south eventually. It's not easy being a socialist down here, especially when idiots who can't tell the difference between a red and a blue-dog like Obama think that you approve of everything he does because "HEYZ A SOSHULLIST!!!" and think you stay up all night writing him "Dear Leader" letters as you kiss framed pictures of him. The conspiracy theorists are also in full-swing down here (at least in SC). Can't go a day without hearing "Barack HUSSEIN Obama," or "Dur Bahbull shud bey tawt in skool instead o' dat Marxist evolooshunizm..."

They're all wrong though. The real reason I stay up all night is because I just hate the "nucular" family so much that I can't sleep at night without my impotent rage keeping me up. I spend every night thinking of new ways to undermine the traditional American family as I share a bucket of fetus-flavored vegan frozen yogurt with gay Muslim terrorists.

    • Haha, my mother frequently claims that Obama is a Muslim. I'm not sure where she got that idea.

Mine does the exact same. Her proof? He made a public appearance at a mosque once.

I used to know a guy who claimed that he could tell that Obama was a Muslim because in one of the videos he watched of him, the American flag couldn't be seen.

The rural areas have way more cranks in them.

        • Oh it's a rural area alright... That must be the reason.

It is more in vogue now than usual to bash the South, Southerners and anyone who like the Rebel flag. I say, racism and bigotry have no place. It is bigoted to hate Southerners and those who understand and appreciate their heritage.
