I'm really scared of gollum is that normal?

This isn't a joke, I've been scared of Gollum/smeagol since the movies came out! I try not to watch the movies but my family and friends get me to do it, because they think it's going to help me grow out of it, but I always end up covering my eyes. I can watch real scary and horror movies and not be scared but I watched the lord of the rings I have nightmares. Is this even normal?

Same here my friend. I've been tormented by his terrifying voice and his disturbing appearance ever since I was little. I love the LOTR but I still can't force myself to watch any scenes that show him.

It is normal. Ever since the first LOTR movie, gollum has given me nothing but constant psychological nightmares and I am 23 now!

You should fear Jan from the Brady Bunch and her family more. That girl had an imaginary boyfriend named after a composer, wore an old lady's wig to a party and like gollum, had a bad side that she could talk to.

For many years I had nightmares about Gollum chasing me over hills, night after night after night. I remember I used to wake up in a really bad mood because a) I hated seeing Gollum and b) because the bedsheets tangled my legs and I couldn't run away.
It was repeatedly the same dream, same place, same scenario with Gollum chasing me in normal speed and me running away in slow motion; you can never win.

  • I still pee the bed when I watch wizard of Oz because the munchkins freak me out!

  • Awwww, sweetie. I feel sorry for you, not being able to watch LOTR because of Gollum/Smeagol ... I would DIE if I couldn't. :)
    It isn't ... particularly ... normal ...
But don't worry! It isn't suggestive of mental-ness or anything, some people just have pet fears. Try watching the Gollum rap. If you can't, well ...
You see, if you can't force yourself to watch him, you're not going to get over it. Just try, maybe things will work out.
    :D

Aww that's too bad! =( I think he is so funny (and funny looking).. Actually adopted a ferret named smeagol ^_^

Hey you should familiarize yourself with the guy who plays him in the movie, youtube some vid clips of him in the green suit etc. That way he doesn't seem real and have that power over you..

Would it help if you just pictured a cute little fat white ferret when you get scared?! lol

    Good Luck though!

Here, watch the Gollum rap. There's no way in Hell Gollum can still be frightening after this:

  • This one is funny because when I was working at Norpac Foods in Salem, Oregon, I worked with an asian older woman who LOOKED just like Gollum. I kid you not and she still works there.

I sometimes miss that job and I often joke with my fiance who also used to work there about the people there and she often laughs when I mention Gollum.

Being scared of fictional people is rather out there though and I wish you the best of luck. Just remember that it could be worst and you could be married to Gollum.

"Married to Gollum?!" Ahahahah you're going to give the poor author nightmares xD

It's normal to be scared. People are scared of all sorts of things. Personally, I love Gollum. Er, not enough to marry him, but he's a good character.
